Ford has developed a new technology in its 2010 Sho that’s helping parents monitor their teen driver’s behavior even while they are not in the car. A new ramp will open by 5:30 a.m. Monday morning (November 9), allowing for additional separation of traffic toward TIA and I-275 from the EB Courtney Campbell Parkway. Spruce Street/Cypress Street and the airport traffic will continue to use the current ramp. However, drivers connecting with I-275 or Kennedy Boulevard will have access to the new ramp, which will enter southbound Memorial from the left side and into a new lane, avoiding the traffic exiting to Spruce Street/Cypress Street or Tampa International Airport.
Hair for Hope- A “hairoic” cut-a-thon to benefit women battling cancer.

Description: Participants are needed who are willing to cut at least 8 inches of their hair. All donated hair will be sent to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which has wigs made from the hair. Those wigs then are distributed via American Cancer Society wig banks throughout the country to women who are involved in cancer treatment and have lost their hair as a result.

Considering the 7 losses this year plus the last 4 of ‘08, is now the time to go creamsicle? What do you think?

Thanks to Chef Castro for helping us get into the Halloween spirit this morning… here’s the marshmallow recipe.
Marshmallows
Quantity Ingredients
1 cup, plus more for dusting confectioners’ sugar
3 1/2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup cold water
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup hot water (110°F)
1/4 teaspoon salt, Table
2 large egg whites
1 teaspoon vanilla, extract
Procedure
1. Spray bottom and sides of a 13 by 9 by 2-inch rectangular metal baking pan and dust bottom and sides with some confectioners’ sugar.
2. In bowl of standing electric mixer or in a large bowl sprinkle gelatin over cold water and let stand to soften.
3. In a 3-quart heavy saucepan cook granulated sugar, corn syrup, hot water, and salt over low heat, stirring with a wooden spoon, until sugar is dissolved.
4. Increase heat to moderate and boil mixture, without stirring, until a candy or digital thermometer registers 240 degrees, about 11 minutes. Remove pan from heat and pour sugar mixture over gelatin mixture, stirring until gelatin is dissolved.
5. With standing or a hand-held electric mixer beat mixture on high speed until white, thick and nearly tripled in volume, about 6 minutes.
6. In a large bowl with cleaned beaters beat whites until they just hold stiff peaks. Beat whites and vanilla into sugar mixture until just combined.
7. Pour mixture into baking pan and sift 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar evenly over top. Chill marshmallow, uncovered, until firm, at least three hours, and up to 1 day.
8. Loose edges of marshmallow from pan and invert pan onto large cutting board. With a large knife or cookies cutters cut marshmallows into roughly 1-inch cubes or desired shapes.
9. Dust with confectioners’ sugar around all edges and enjoy!! Marshmallows keep in an airtight container at cool room temperature for at least 1 week. You may dust with more powder sugar to prevent marshmallows sticking from each other.

FDOT announced last week statewide safety belt use reached a record 85.2 percent this year following FDOT’s 2009 Click It or Ticket safety belt campaign and the passage of the state’s primary enforcement law. The national safety belt use rate for 2009 is 84 percent.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates with the approval of its primary safety belt law, Florida will save 124 lives, prevent 1,733 serious injuries, and save $408 million in associated costs each year. Passage of the primary law means law enforcement can now stop drivers for the sole reason that someone is not wearing a safety belt.
Just five days after Florida’s law became primary on June 30, 2009, an observational survey of vehicles was undertaken. The results showed Florida’s rate had topped the national average for the first time. The numbers are encouraging especially considering the vast majority of the survey counties increased their safety belt usage rate over last year.
The survey also followed the focused Click It or Ticket campaign that took place May 11-June 1. During that time, law enforcement agencies increased patrols and traffic safety efforts while practicing a zero tolerance policy for people not wearing their safety belts. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and local law enforcement agencies are once again commended for their dedication to saving lives and promoting safety belt use. Also instrumental in this successful campaign to save lives were the numerous grass roots efforts that took place across the state to educate Florida’s residents and its visitors on the benefits of always buckling up.
Ulmerton Road EB blocked due to a crash at Feather Sound Drive in Pinellas County. Officials remain on-scene and are reporting delays in the area. Traffic urged to plan for alternate routes including Roosevelt Blvd.
Hillsborough Avenue WB shut down at Countryway Blvd due to a serious crash. WB Hillsborough Avenue drivers can turn right on Montague, left on Memorial Hwy, left on Double Tree Rd, right on Hillsborough Avenue to reconnect with WB traffic flow.

All lanes of SR-50 are currently shut down in both directions between Ridge Manor Blvd and US-301 in Hernando County following an accident. Officials remain on-scene. Traffic should use Ridge Manor Blvd which parallels SR-50 to the north as an alternate.
*** UPDATE: Officials are now indicating the accident involves an overturned tanker truck carrying some portion of nitrogen and are currently clearing the area as a safety precaution.
*** UPDATE: All lanes of SR-50 have been reopened as of 8:00 a.m.
Closures continue in Tampa this morning following an overnight accident which took down TECO power lines. Armenia Avenue remains closed between Grace and Cypress Streets while Cypress Street is shut down between Peter and Howard Avenues. Local deto…urs remain in effect and are expected to linger throughout the morning rush and afternoon hours.
