Hillsborough County:

Turner Thinking Jefferson, Not 250th Victory

On Thursday, Chamberlain coach Billy Turner has a chance to record his 250th career victory and 200th at Chamberlain when his Chiefs host Jefferson for their homecoming game. He’s coached for 37 years, 29 with Chamberlain. Turner isn’t concentrating on the milestone. He’s thinking about the Dragons (3-2).

“I think Jefferson is right there with Hillsborough,” Turner said. “They look just like Hillsborough. They have fast running backs.”

Chamberlain won last year’s meeting, 21-14.

The Chiefs will have to play without senior kicker Austin Pullaro, who may be out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, Turner said.

“He does kickoff, punts and is the game winning field goal kicker,” Turner said. “It’s a big loss.”

Currently the winningest coach in Hillsborough County, Turner doesn’t see the big deal in celebrating 250 wins.

“One hundred is a landmark and 200 in a landmark, but 250?,” he said. “I don’t have anymore landmarks. Brian (Turner) said I should coach until I get to 300. Coach until I’m 90? Three hundred doesn’t mean as much to me as my freedom.”
