According to FDOT officials, Eastbound SR 60, Southbound Memorial Highway, and Southbound Veterans Expressway traffic is scheduled to be switched to a new alignment early Monday morning (by 5:30 a.m.), September 15th. Traffic will be in this new alignment from just south of the Courtney Campbell Parkway to Cypress Street.
As a result of this traffic switch, motorists will have to exit to the LEFT going to Tampa International Airport (TIA) or eastbound Spruce Street. This exit configuration will be temporary; the TIA exit will return to a right side exit within about one month while Spruce Street will switch to a right exit within several months.
Drivers are reminded to be especially alert and pay attention to signs and other vehicles as motorists adjust to the new conditions next week.

Thank goodness I get up early and get past the airport exchange before it gets really busy in the mornings! What a confusing mess - no one knew where to go! But it’s an amazing difference now to get to the I275 South exit - wide open lanes and great visibitity!

This has absolutely grinded southbound traffic to a screeching halt on the ENTIRE veterans expressway in the morning. It took me 1.5 hours on both Monday and Tuesday to get to Kennedy from Lutz, when it usually takes 25-30 minutes. Yikes! The temporary configuration can’t get removed any sooner and it reminds me of the Northbound Airport Exit/US 60/Veterans cluster weave on the way home! Plus, there are hardly any signs directing the traffic. They needed to warn motorists earlier about this significant change, as well as provide a lot more signs directing the exits. I heard many stories of motorists taking the wrong exists after the switch. I consider this a failed frustrating temporary solution by the FDOT.
