Luke Easterling's Draft Analysis:

Top 10 RBs

This is one of the deepest RB classes in years, and there will be many teams in rounds 2-3 who will end up with a productive player because there’s simply so many to choose from this year.  This list represents the best RBs in the draft, but not necessarily where I think they’ll be drafted.

1. Darren McFadden, Arkansas - Despite character concerns, still the best player available in the draft.
2. Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois - A punishing runner who has the size (230) to carry a full load at the next level.
3. Jonathan Stewart, Oregon - Once he’s back at 100% (toe surgery), he’ll flash his speed and vision that’s as good as any in this class.
4. Ray Rice, Rutgers - Powerful runner that carries multiple tacklers with ease.  Lack of height (5-8) actually improves leverage.
5. Felix Jones, Arkansas - Great speed, but isn’t a complete back.  Would fit best in a two-back system.
6. Steve Slaton, West Virginia - A home-run threat every time he touches the ball, but must prove he can stay healthy.
7. Chris Johnson, East Carolina - Productive runner with good combination of speed and agility.
8. Kevin Smith, Central Florida - Averaged 183.4 YPG as a senior, enjoying one of the best seasons in college football history for a RB.  Can he handle a full load in the pros?
9. Matt Forte’, Tulane, - Very productive as a senior (2,127 yards, 23 TD), and very versatile.  Another prospect who needs to prove he can handle 25-30 carries at the next level.
10. Tashard Choice, Georgia Tech - Doesn’t wow with pure physical ability or measurables, but is a tough runner who does everything well.
