Here in Tampa, the Crosstown is not a bad ride now thanks to the reversible lanes in part. Alot of cities have toll roads everywhere, and if it can help, at least it gives commuters an option. Better than doing nothing at all at this point.

I think toll roads are okay if they can solve the congestion problems… we have to do something… we have more residents here each year so the problem is only going to get worse unless we do something about it.

Regarding toll roads as a solution to traffic congestion. Anyone at the DOT who thinks that will “cure” the problem in the Tampa Bay area should commute in Miami and Dade County! The turnpike at several locations between Ft. Lauderdale and Kendall suffers from enormous and painfully slow bottlenecks daily during the rush “hour,” normally beginning at ~4 p.m. and going on until 7 p.m.
A better solution for the Tampa area would be improving existing public transportation, encouraging use of public transport, and providing alternative public transportation (such as commuter rails) and making long distance rails commuter friendly for trips to Orlando, Ft. Myers, etc.

Toll roads unfairly target the poor among us. I am not able to take advantage of them because there is no room in the budget for many more important things than tolls.
