Tampa Catholic rising senior baseball player Shane Rowland has been selected to play in the 2009 Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic.
The prestigious national all-star event, which features 40 of the nation’s top rising senior baseball players, will be played Aug. 16 at PETCO Park in San Diego. The game will be nationally televised on Fox Sports Net.
This is the fourth consecutive year a Hillsborough County baseball player has been selected for the event. Rowland joins former Hillsborough outfielder Michael Burgess (2006), former Riverview pitcher Anthony Ferrara (2007) and former Plant infielder/pitcher Mychal Givens (2008). Lakeland rising senior/infielder Yordy Cabrera also was selected to play in the 2009 Aflac All-American game.
Rowland, a catcher, hit .370 with seven doubles, five home runs and 28 RBIs for the Crusaders in 2009 and was a Tribune All-Hillsborough County honorable mention selection. He recently participated in the invite-only Tournament of Stars, an 18-and-under showcase events that also serves as the talent pool for the summer’s 18U U.S. national team.
