Tampa Catholic football standouts P.J. Briody and Eric Gerken, both key performers in the Crusaders’ run to the Class 2A state finals last season, have signed scholarships, TC coach Bob Henriquez said.
Briody, a linebacker who led the Crusaders in tackles (182), has signed with Central Connecticut State. Gerken, Tampa Catholic’s leading receiver (46 catches for 629 yards), has signed with Iona College. Gerken also plans to play baseball for Iona.
Both Central Connecticut and Iona play NCAA Division One Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) football.
