Ryan Malone on U.S. Olympic camp roster


Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Malone has been named to USA Hockey’s Olympic Orientation camp today, USA Hockey announced.  The camp will be held August 17-19 at Seven Bridges Ice Arena in Woodridge, Illinois.

Malone, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, led the NHL in shooting percentage last season with 26 goals on 124 shots for a 21.0 percentage.  He also ranked third on the Lightning in goals and was tied for third in points with 45.  Malone also contributed seven power play goals and three game-winning goals.  He has netted 26 goals or more in each of the previous two seasons.

The 29-year-old has amassed 113 career goals and 214 points in 369 games with Tampa Bay and the Pittsburgh Penguins.  He has also played in 25 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, recording six goals and 16 points.  He has never participated in the Olympics.

Malone represented the United States at the World Championships in 2004 and 2006.  In those tournaments he tallied a combined five goals and seven points in 16 games.

The orientation camp is designed to assist in the preparation of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team that will compete at the XXI Olympic Winter Games to be held from February 12-28 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
