Ripken: Forest Hills wins U.S. championship


Kyle Tucker drove home Jason Heinrich, and Jonathan Diaz followed with a solo home run as Forest Hills won the U.S. championship at the Cal Ripken World Series in Aberdeen, Md. with a 4-2 victory against Upper Montgomery, Md. on Friday evening.

With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Heinrich singled with one out, and stole second. Tucker then singled into right-center field, bringing home Heinrich.

Tucker was caught stealing second for the second out, but Diaz then homered to center for a two-run cushion.

Heinrich earned the victory on the mound, throwing three shutout inning after entering in the fourth. Heinrich held Upper Montgomery hitless, pitching around two walks and a hit batter.

Forest Hills had taken a 2-0 lead in the first, as Darren Miller hit a two-run homer, but Upper Montgomery scored in both the second and third to tie the game, Robby Maumary’s solo homer tying the game.

Forest Hills will now face Mexico, which won the International championship with a 1-0 win against Japan, in the World championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m. The game can be seen on MLB Network.
