Boston starter Daisuke Matsuzaka walked three batters but escaped further damage when he got Cliff Floyd to ground out to end the first inning of Game 1 of the ALCS tonight at Tropicana Field.
The first inning took 29 minutes to play, despite only one hit by either team—a ground-rule double by Boston’s Kevin Youkilis.
Dustin Pedroia, who walked, took third on the Youkilis double with two outs, but Rays starter James Shields struck out J.D. Drew to end the threat.
