Plant City coach Jason Strunk will have to wait a bit longer than expected to trot the Raiders out on their home field for the first time.
Strunk said Monday that Plant City’s Kickoff Classic against Tampa Bay Tech scheduled for Aug. 29 has been moved to TBT because of some problems with new sod being laid down on the Raiders’ home field.
Strunk said he wanted new sod because Plant City’s field was the “worst playing surface I’d seen. I wasn’t letting my guys out on that.” During the process of replacing the sod an error was made, Strunk said, and it could not be corrected before the scheduled game against the Titans.
Strunk said everything will be completed before Plant City’s first scheduled home game of the 2008 regular season, which is against Riverview on Sept. 19. Plant City opens the season with consecutive road games at Durant and Blake.
