After the first inning took nearly half an hour to complete, the second inning went by in the relative blink of an eye as James Shields and Daisuke Matsuzaka each retired three straight batters in the scoreless ALCS Game 2.
Jason Bay flied out and Mark Kotsay grounded out before Jed Lowrie struck out swinging for the Red Sox.
In the bottom of the second, Dioner Navarro and Gabe Gross both struck out before Jason Bartlett popped out to third base to end the inning.
