From Center Ice - Erik Erlendsson

Paul Ranger Cleared To Play

Lightning defenseman Paul Ranger received clearance on Tuesday to return to the ice and will play in Thursday’s game against the New York Islanders.

“I can’t wait to get back out there,” Ranger said.

Ranger missed all six preseason games and the first three games of the regular season as he recovered from off-season shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

“Paul Ranger is arguably our best defenseman,” Lightning coach Barry Melrose said. “He’s a guy who can skate. He’s a big body who can pass the puck.”

Melrose said he does not expect to have Ranger play 25 minutes, but would likely be in the 17-minute range. Melrose also said the decision has not been made as to which defenseman will come out of the lineup to accommodate Ranger’s return.
