Jerry Murillo and Ryan Johnson each homered, as the Super Series champion Texas Rattlers defeated Forest Hills 18-6 in the championship game of the National Youth Baseball Championships in Memphis, Tenn. on Sunday night.
Cal Ripken champion Forest Hills fell behind early, giving up three runs in the top of the first, and were unable to respond. The Rattlers then scored 10 runs in the fifth inning to take a 13-0 lead. Forest Hills rallied to avoid the game ending early, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the deficit was too large to overturn.
Forest Hills had been undefeated through the summer until this game, a mark of 23-0. It had defeated AABC champion Vaqueros de Puerto Rico 5-4 in the tournament semifinals earlier in the day, Darren Miller and Kyle each going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Rattlers had earlier defeated the AAU champion Valrico Bullets 10-0, holding the Bullets to one hit in the five-inning game.
