A second opinion didn’t change the prognosis for Jake McGee. Dr. James Andrews, the Rays’ medical director, confirmed after an exam today that McGee has a torn elbow ligament.
The left-hander will undergo Tommy John surgery next week, the Montgomery Advertiser reports. That procedure could keep him out into next season, but most who have had the surgery are able to recover and pitch at a high level.
