Just like its parent team, the Lightning’s top minor league affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals dropped the season opener, losing 5-3 to the Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals’ top affiliate). And just like the Lightning, Norfolk was badly outshot giving up 38 shots on goal while registering 22 shots.
Paul Szczechura, Brandon Bochenski and Wyatt Smith scored goals for Norfolk while Karri Ramo took the loss, with 33 saves on 37 shots faced. The Admirals pulled ahead 2-1 early in the second period, but Hersey scored three in a five minute span to close out the second period for a 4-2 lead. You can see the boxscore here
Norfolk will face Hersey again on Saturday before playing the next five on the road beginning Oct. 17 in Lake Erie.
