The Lightning have placed defensemen Mike Lundin amd Matt Lashoff on waivers today as they get set to pare down its roster to the maximum of 23 players by Wednesday’s deadline.
Forwards Ryan Craig, Adam Hall and Brandon Bochenski all cleared waivers on Tuesday and are expected to be assigned to Norfolk of the AHL.
Lundin signed a contract the week leading up to training camp, and was holding out hope that the team would trade him after he fell deep down the depth chart. Lundin, a former 2007 NHL YoungStar, actually enjoyed a solid camp.
Lashoff, a former first-round pick of Boston, was acquired from the Bruins at the trade deadline. An offensive defenseman, Lashoff had 7 assists in 11 games for Tampa Bay last season after coming over. But with the addition of Kurtis Foster and Mattias Ohlund, along with the drafting of Victor Hedman, Lashoff did not see much power play time in the preseason. Lashoff signed a two-tear contract this summer, the first year of which is on a two-way, that pays him less in the AHL than the NHL.
Both Lashoff and Lundin have until non Wednesday to clear.
The moves Tuesday means the team is carrying nine defensemen - Ohlund, Hedman, Walker, Ranger, Meszaros, Foster, Smaby, Hale and Krajicek.
