After working diligently to work out a deal to acquire defenseman Andrej Meszaros from the Ottawa Senators, the Lightning finally reached an agreement Friday night.
Tampa Bay acquired the rights to Meszaros, who is a restricted free agent who was reportedly seeking between $3.5 and $4.5 million in a long-term deal from Ottawa, in exchange for defensemen Filip Kuba and Alex Picard along with San Jose’s first round pick in 2009, previously acquired in the deal that sent Dan Boyle to the Sharks.
Meszaros, 22, is expected to be signed to a new contract by the Lightning, possibly as early as Saturday.
