Newcomer Manatee continued to make its mark on the Lightning Conference Central Division with a 4-1 win against Jesuit in Week 3 of the high school season.

After a scoreless first period, Ryan Curran gave the Hurricanes the lead with 2:22 to play in the second period. Chase Egly then doubled Manatee’s lead with 7:32 to play in the third before Jesuit pulled a goal back just under two minutes later through Angelo Mole.

The Tigers couldn’t get the game back to level, though, as Jake Owens made 22 saves to earn the win. Vasili Malliaras restored the Hurricanes’ two-goal advantage with 4:04 to play before Egly added his second of the game on an empty-netter with seven seconds to go.

The Tigers loss was their first of the season, with Manatee and Newsome Blue now the only teams that remain undefeated in the league, with the Wolves having the week off.

Jesuit bounced back the following night, as Troy Mainzer recorded the shutout in a 6-0 victory over Wiregrass. Pete Lowery scored twice for the Tigers, while Robert Flores and Nick LaFleche added a goal and an assist apiece. Brandon Cherry and Joey Mole also scored for Jesuit.

Wharton earned its second win of the season as it defeated Bloomingdale 3-1, Matt Cazes scoring twice for the Wildcats.

Cazes gave the Wildcats the lead in the second period before assisting on John Collins’ goal at 9:26 of the third period for a 2-0 lead. Austin Carmody pulled a goal back for the Bulls on a power play with 3:48 to play, but Cazes second a little over a minute later put the game away for the Wildcats.

Plant defeated Sarasota, but followed it up with a loss to Lakeland Jenkins to sit at 1-2 for the season in sixth place in the standings.

The Panthers shut out the Sailors, Aaron Wise recording the shutout as Justin Bramm had a goal and two assists in the 4-0 victory. Bramm opened the scoring with 8:48 to play in the first period, and then assisted on goals by Christian Jordan and Parker Armstrong in the third period. Ben Sisemore had the Panthers other goal in the second period.

The Panthers then fell behind early to the Eagles, and were unable to rally, falling 3-2. Daniel Hoyt scored twice for Jenkins, with Caleb Eckhardt also finding the net, as the Eagles took a 3-0 lead after the first period.

Mark Hubinger and Albin Hagman both scored power play goals for the Panthers, each assisted by Armstrong, but were unable to complete the rally.
