The following awards were presented to individuals and teams for fall sports at the Hillsborough County School Board building on Thursday.

Ben Walker Outstanding Cross Country Runner Award (Male): Connor Revord, Jesuit High

Revord completed a standout four-year prep cross country career last fall for the Tigers by pacing them to second place in the Class 2A state finals in Dade City. Along the way, he successfully defended his regional crown for the third time and, by finishing sixth individually, earned all-state honors for the fourth consecutive year. Revord, who is also one of the state’s top milers and half milers, has narrowed his college choices to Penn State and the University of North Carolina.

Ben Walker Outstanding Cross Country Runner Award (Female): Rebecca Webster, Newsome

Webster, who recently made a verbal commitment to Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania, was the county’s fastest finisher at the state championships, taking 21st place in the 3A meet with a lifetime best of 19 minutes, 30 seconds. She was the Wolves’ No. 1 runner last fall and led her team to fifth place. 

Jim “Jimbo” Kynes Outstanding Lineman Award: Ryne Giddins, Armwood

A consensus four-star recruit, Giddins was named the CSTV Defensive Player of the Year and recently committed to South Florida. He will end his prep career as Armwood’s all-time sack leader.

Guy Toph Award: Dontae Aycock, Chamberlain

Aycock, a 5-foot-10 dual-threat quarterback, led the Chiefs to an 11-2 record, a district championship and Class 5A region final appearance while leading the county in rushing yards and scoring. He passed for 1,491 yards and 17 touchdowns and rushed for 1,406 yards with 28 touchdowns. He also owns a 3.1 unweighted grade-point average and has more than 30 college scholarships offers, which include Georgia Tech and Illinois.

Casey Most Valuable Golfer Award (Female): Shena Yang, Wharton

This past season, Yang placed third in the state girls golf tournament and has committed to South Florida. She owns a 4.58 GPA.

Casey Most Valuable Golfer Award (Male): Kyle Martin, Plant City

A four-time regional qualifier, Martin recently committed to Brevard Community College. He holds the school for record for a single round (32) and has received recognition by the FSGA as one of the top 15 Boys Junior Champions.

Jessie Helfrich Hicks Award for Outstanding Swimmer (Male): Conor Swanson, Sickles

Swanson won the Class 3A boys 100 breaststroke and 200 IM state titles and holds eight school records.  He holds a 4.13 weighted GPA.

Jessie Helfrich Hicks Award for Outstanding Swimmer (Female): Meg Anderson

Anderson, who will swim for Clemson in the fall, is a four-time state champion and three-time state runner-up. She owns a 4.0 unweighted GPA and has been named an All-American and Academic All-American by USA Swimming. This was Anderson’s second straight year receiving the award.

Kirkwood Family Volleyball Award: Danielle Erb, Plant

Erb helped lead Plant to its third consecutive Class 5A state title and was later named the Florida Dairy Farmers 5A Player of the Year. The James Madison University-bound hitter owns a 5.4 GPA and is editor of the school yearbook.
