Brandon lineman Danny Gonzalez could be playing for a little extra during the Eagles’ season-opener against Middleton.
The 6-foot-1, 317-pound lineman, who has yet to pick up his first scholarship offer, said coaches from defending Division II national champion Valdosta State told him they will be in attendance to watch him play during Brandon’s season opener at Middleton on Sept. 5. If Gonzalez performs well against the Tigers, his first offer could very well come from the Division II powerhouse.
“They’re very high on him,” Brandon coach John Lima said.
Gonzalez, who started on the defensive line as a sophomore, the offensive line as a junior and will play both ways this season, first caught the attention of Valdosta State coaches during a local Mike Alstott football camp, Brandon coach John Lima said. Lima added Gonzalez was invited this summer to a football camp run by the college program and that both the coach and the senior lineman attended. Gonzalez is being recruited to play defensive line at Valdosta State.
The Eagles had one player sign with Valdosta State last season – tight end Adam Gieseking.
