Friday’s matchup between Plant and Gaither was supposed to showcase an air assault versus a ground attack.
But the Cowboys running game might be missing their biggest weapon. Starting tailback Jarvis Giles could miss his second-consecutive game with a leg injury he suffered in Gaither’s Kickoff Classic victory against Durant on Aug. 29. The University of Tennessee commit took a helmet to the back of his leg and it caused his muscle to seize up. Giles sat out in the Cowboys loss to Chamberlain last Friday night.
“I don’t think I’m going to go this week,” Giles told the Tampa Tribune. “I might be back for the Freedom game.”
Plant also was dealing with an injury to its star offensive player. Quarterback Aaron Murray left Dad’s Stadium last Friday night following the Panthers 9-2 loss to Armwood on crutches with his right shin taped up. But Plant coach Robert Weiner said Murray is off the crutches and will be fine this week.
