    Delmonico To Interview At FAU

Florida State volunteer assistant baseball coach Rod Delmonico, head coach at Tennessee for 18 seasons prior to returning to Tallahassee, will interview next week for the vacant head coach’s job at Florida Atlantic.

“I want to coach and teach and hopefully there is something out there this summer,’’ Delmonico said Wednesday as the Seminoles prepared for their final practice before departing for Omaha. “This has been a great learning experience for me. It’s like going back in time when I was here 20 years ago and learning again.’’

Delmonico was fired at Tennessee following a 34-25 finish in 2007. In 18 seasons, he compiled a 699-346 record at Tennessee, leaving as the school’s all-time leader in wins. He led the Vols to three trips to the College World Series. Prior to taking over the Vols, Delmonico worked as a FSU assistant for six seasons. His son, Tony, is FSU’s starting shortstop.

FAU coach Kevin Cooney retired at the end of the season after leading the Owls program for 21 years.
