Hillsborough County:

Cup Has New Name In Riverview-East Bay Rivalry

The Riverview-East Bay football game has been one of Hillsborough County’s top rivalry games the past few years, and one thing that made it great was the two teams played annually for the Cherry’s Cup, which was sponsored by Cherry’s restaurant.

The cup will still be up for grabs when the Indians and Sharks meet in each team’s regular season-opener Sept. 5 at J. Vince Thompson Stadium in Riverview, but the cup will have a new name.

“It’s going to be called the Raysbrook Cup,” East Bay coach Brian Thornton said Thursday.

Thornton said Raysbrook is a local sod company that is replacing Cherry’s as the official sponsor of the cup.

East Bay owns a 4-2 advantage all-time against Riverview and currently holds the cup. The Indians won last year’s meeting 24-7.
