NEW ORLEANS—Michael Clayton and RB Michael Bennett are among the Bucs who didn’t dress for today’s season opener against the Saints.
Rookie LB Geno Hayes, injured G Davin Joseph, T James Lee, DE Greg Peterson and rookie QB Josh Johnson are also inactive while Luke McCown will serve as the emergency third QB behind Jeff Garcia and Brian Griese.
Bennett easily led the Bucs with 203 rushing yards in the preseason, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. Tampa Bay will go with Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn at tailback and fullbacks B.J. Askew and Byron Storer.
Clayton, born in nearby Baton Rouge, caught four passes for 44 yards and a TD in the preseason, but the Bucs decided to dress only five WRs Sunday.
Antonio Bryant will start today ahead of veteran WR Ike Hilliard opposite Joey Galloway against a weak New Orleans secondary. Tampa Bay’s other wideouts are Maurice Stovall and rookie Dexter Jackson, who is also expected to handle return duties this afternoon.
Third-round pick Jeremy Zuttah will start at RG for Joseph, sidelined indefinitely with a broken right foot.
