Bulls fans have rushed field for last time

Hopefully you were able to rush the field after the University of South Florida’s upset of No. 5 West Virginia last year or made it down to the Raymond James Stadium turf for the other times during program history when fans got onto the field.

That’s because the Big East passed new sportsmanship legislation banning non-credentialed individuals (i.e. the fans) from entering the playing surface after the completion of a game, Big East associate commissioner John Paquette said. The new rules were enacted by the league for the safety of fans, athletes, and coaches.

First, RJS puts in collapsible goal posts and now fans are banned by the league from rushing the field. What’s next? Charging $6.75 for a Coke?

So no matter how big of a win USF pulls off in the future, fans will no longer be able to rush the field - and then be asked to leave the field as they were when the public address announcer instructed them to exit through Gate C after beating West Virginia.

“That’s Gate C - as in conference championship,” the PA announcer said.
