Bloomingdale senior baseball player R.J. Brown has verbally committed to Florida Gulf Coast, a Division I program in Fort Myers.
Brown, a pitcher, recently made his commitment after making an unofficial visit to the Florida Gulf Coast campus. He said the Eagles were the first school to make him a scholarship offer.
“They gave me a nice offer, and I decided I probably couldn’t pass that one up,” Brown said.
Brown went 5-2 with a 2.91 ERA for the Bulls as a junior. He struck out 37 and walked 12 in 45 2/3 innings pitched. He also threw three complete games.
“I’m excited that he found a program that was the right fit for him,” Bloomingdale coach Kris Wilken said. “I think he made a great choice, and it’s a place he can go in early on in his college career and possibly make an impact on the mound.”
Brown said he plans to sign with Florida Gulf Coast during the early signing period in November.
