Bishop McLaughlin named Greg David as the Hurricanes boys basketball coach.
David left the same position at Spring Hill’s Notre Dame Catholic School. Last season, he guided the squad to a first place division finish. Prior to that, David was a coach in the boys youth basketball program in New York’s Children’s Aid Society.
David takes over for Greg O’Connell, who resigned Jan. 2, following a dispute with parents over his discipline methods. O’Connell led the Hurricanes to a 10-13 record in 2007-08 and had the team at 10-1 this past season before resigning. Les Parker took over the program and finished out the season.
David played college basketball at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he earned his degree. He also played semi-pro basketball in Puerto Rico.
