These days are good for Berkeley Prep golf coach Tom Shea.
After watching both his boys and girls golf teams reach the state tournament last season, Shea has the luxury of welcoming back the bulk of those teams in 2008.
The top five players from the Bucs’ 2007 girls squad are back, and three of the top five are back for the boys, led by sophomore Blake Morris.
Morris had a productive summer on the course, one that included a runner-up finish at the 87th Connecticut Junior Amateur.
In addition to Morris, RJ Campbell and Austin Suarez are returning starters, and also back is Charles Godfrey, a varsity player in 2007 who played in about half Berkeley Prep’s matches last season.
Shea also believes there are four-five sophomores who “may surprise some people” and could figure into the rotation. Included in that group is Ren Scott and Bradley Glisson.
“I think the boys will be just as good [as last year],” Shea said.
Check Tuesday’s Tampa Tribune for the 2008 Hillsborough County boys and girls golf season previews.
