TAMPA – It’s been about six weeks since the NFL conducted its annual draft of college prospects and that’s significant for just one reason.
Former Bucs linebacker Derrick Brooks told us a couple months back that his best opportunity to play in the NFL again would probably be offered shortly after the draft concluded.
Well, as we said, the draft is now more than a month in everyone’s rearview mirror and still there is little to suggest Brooks is about to hook up with a new team.
There was some talk of Brooks possibly landing with the Saints, but New Orleans coach Sean Payton shot down that thought earlier this week.
We felt pretty sure that Brooks would eventually find work after the Bucs let him go and while he’s been in contact with some teams, we’re starting to wonder if that work will be as a player.
