SEVENTY STORIES ABOVE MANHATTAN — We almost gave up Friday night. The Heisman candidate bus tour got off to a late start, meaning the trip to the top of Rockefeller Center also got delayed.
But then we thought we saw Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan climbing the stairs between the 69th and 70th floors. And then there was Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel. And Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden. And, finally, still smiling near the end of a grueling media gauntlet, was Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.
Tebow marveled at the view of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, but not as much as he marveled at the driving snow late Friday afternoon from a suite on the 43rd floor of the Hilton on the Avenue of the Americas.
After he watched the snow for a few minutes, Tebow sat down for a wide-ranging interview. Here are a few nuggets.
— He intends to stay at Florida for four years.
— He knew he’d broken his hand against Florida State, but he made sure not to tell coaches. He even wanted to be in the game to take a knee on the final play.
— When his football career is over, Tebow can see himself working with children or taking over his father’s ministry in the Phillipines.
