Pittman Back In 2 Weeks?

TAMPA – Bucs running back Michael Pittman shocked many by riding around in a blue scooter last week, but he had another surprise on Thursday.

Pittman, who was originally slated to miss six to eight weeks after tearing ligaments in his right ankle against Indianapolis, said he is nearly 80 percent recovered and expects to be on the field soon.

‘‘That is why I was trying to tell people that I would be back before [six weeks],’’ Pittman said. ‘‘It was a bad ankle injury, but I educated myself on doing the type of things to help you recovery wise. What type of supplements I need to take, vitamins and different types of enzymes to take, plus the treatment I get and different types of exercises for my ankle.’‘

Pittman walked around the Bucs locker room without his protective boat on Thursday, but wore a high top sneaker and ankle brace. He said his current pain is minimal.

Tampa Bay recently traded for Kansas City running back Michael Bennett after Pittman’s injury, but once the ankle is 95 percent healed, he intends to step be back on the field. Pittman believes he could return in two weeks.

‘‘I feel better and I know by this time next week, I’ll feel even better,’’ Pittman said. ‘‘I might even try to go run next week knowing me, but I’m sure they are going to hold me back. I really don’t want to be stupid about it.

‘‘I don’t want to rehurt myself, or hurt my teammates by doing something that I should not be doing, but if it feels good enough, I’m going to start running next week. We’ll see what happens.’’

I really think with Pittman coming back on board. Then we would have Pittman at FB, Graham at RB, with Bennett, Cockett as backup’s. Maybe Crockett or Bennett could do the KO and PK. I really think this week is pay back on Jag’s espically with their QB in shambles. Go Bucs 30 to 0.

How many RB’s does this team need?  Considering we have lost 2 of them for the rest of the season and one to a severe ankle injury, Bennett is an obvious upgrade to our depth and ability.  If we hadn’t traded for someone, Cummings would be crying that we let an opportunity pass us by.

Its pretty easy to be a naysayer, huh Roy?  Too bad you don’t get the info like you did with the McKay regime…

Roy…Christ, man!  How does bringing in a former 1st round draft pick and pro-bowler HURT the team?  Especially when it costs us, what, 1 or 2 SECOND DAY PICKS!!!  C’mon man!  Get real!

Bennett is a good back that has had the misfortune of showing up with teams that have STUD runners in front of him.  In all honesty, even with Pitt back, I’d prefer to see Bennett more.  Bennett has good vision, INCREDIBLE speed, and has been a “feature back” in the NFL.  Pitt is a tough runner, but Bennett gives up the home run ability that we haven’t had since Warrick Dunn.  Pitt and EG just can break off the long ones like Bennett can.

Clearly the trade for Bennett hurts this team now.  How many RB’s does this team need?

very welcome news given what has transpired over the past couple weeks. like others i thought his ankle was broken after seeing the replay of the linebacker falling on it but we knew pitt gives it his all and would come back early. a true football warrior.

Pittman is a great example of a player who had off-the-field trouble and has come to Tampa and been a great “team” player and stayed out of trouble.  They desperately need one of the best set of hands on the team next to Joey and Ike back in the lineup.

I’m shocked as I thought he could be lost for the year.  No one can argue that Pittman takes care of himself..just look at the “guns”.

He’s a gamer all right! Just hope he doesn’t come back too soon.

Thats not possible…is it?  Even a minor ankle sprain can take a month to come back from.  When I saw Pitt get hurt, I’ll be honest, I thought he broke his ankle.  To hear that what I saw against Indy was only going to cost Pitt 3-4 weeks is incredible.  Almost unbelievable.  If he’s REALLY ready - great.  But don’t come back before you’re ready…
