With Jon Gruden declining comment Tuesday, it was left for Bucs OL coach Bill Muir to defend a defending division champion still coping with the fallout from the Jerramy Stevens signing and recent public remarks by Chris Simms critical of Tampa Bay’s seventh-year coach.
“All I know is what’s going on inside this building—there is no controversy,’’ said Muir, who joined Gruden’s inaugural 2002 staff in Tampa. “There’s single purpose of mind, from the head coach to the last player on the roster. The media’s job is to stir things up and they seem to be doing a very good job of it, but it’s not being stirred inside. The controversy is from outside the building.’’
Featured RB Earnest Graham hasn’t been working out at the facility and No. 1 QB Jeff Garcia is disgruntled with his contract, but Muir is stressing the positive six weeks before Tampa Bay players and coaches head to training camp.
“You go to our board and see the participation in the offseason program, you see the effort outside here in the OTAs, you see the attention in the meeting rooms,’’ Muir said. “The only issues we have are New Orleans and Atlanta. Those are our issues. I’ve been doing this a long time and it’s an encouraging group to be around.’’
According to Simms, his relationship with Gruden is likely frayed beyond repair.
“I can only tell you this because everyone will think I’m sucking up to the head coach, but for all of those Gruden haters out there, I really don’t care,’’ said Muir. “They don’t know what a real football coach is supposed to be like. I’ve been around a real football coach or two in my life – this is a real football coach. End of story. He’s a real football coach.’’

bucs are champs,
I liked everything you posted, it was pretty much right on, but to compare Luke McCown to Tom Brady thats where you kind of lost me. I like Luke don’t get me wrong but he is no Tom Brady. Thats like comparing Chicken to Prime Rib. Or a Blogna sandwich to a Subway Sub.

Alright Buc fans!!! Way to tear up the haters.
Let me set the record straight on Gruden. I’ve had a lot of discussions with a lot of Raider fans here in CA and the consensus is they were shocked when he left because of the respect and love they had for him.
Mark my word, the Buc’s are very close to becoming one of the great teams.

Super bowl is in tampa this year. My predictions. Watch out for Mike Clayton, he will be back to his old form this year. Garcia is goin to go down and Luke leads us to the promise land. We have the next Tom Brady in our team which is luke. Cadalliac will be bac for the playoffs and proves everyone wrong.Teams will have a problem with our offense because of DUNN, BENNENT, and the Caddy in the playoffs. Defense will be ranked number 1. Bucs will go to super bowl and win it all. I’ve called it, watch.

Just having fun JR. You are probably referring to my Brother, I would guess. Have you seen us on TV, or know who it is yet? We are much alike in our views. I’m a little bigger, but he’s a little smarter. I only have 1 more day of vacation left before I have to hit it again. I may get banned from here, but not from Raymond James Stadium. It’s all good. Most people these days are too thinned skinned anyway. For $2 Million Bucs I’d be happy sitting on the Bucs’ bench watching the game & I don’t care what I get called, because it’s probably true or I deserve it.

todd, i’m with you on this argument, so i’ll say this nicely, its called the strength of schedule, the nfl calculates it and updates it during every season.
BigBucFan, you crack me up, its pretty easy to tell what your username must be on the bucs message board and i think you are letting off a lot of steam without any worry of what the mods will do to ya.

CVal, our offense was 18th last year(about average) with guys that have less than average talent, i’m not calling gruden an offensive genius but he can squeeze a lot out of nothing. You’re complaining about paying faine(so called 10th best center) so much money. What free agents did you want to go after. Bernard Berrian, Jerry Porter? Right lets make the 30th and 31st best receivers in the nfl among highest paid wide receivers.
Posted by JR, orlando,fl on 06/10 at 09:58 PM
Chris J, i agree with you completely on that.
Anthony, good riddance, all of the real buc fans here don’t mind you leaving, in fact we’re all better off. Go cheer happily for one of the other 3 teams that you are a so called fan of. Nice strategy, if you pick enough teams to like surely one of them has to be good. Dont confuse yourself for a real Bucs fan because you were born in tampa and just watching the games doesnt make you a fan.

Amen, Todd. We are winning this argument. Go Bucs!!!
Posted by todd, PSJ, FL on 06/10 at 09:53 PM
CVAL,
Are you stating facts?(not) Or are you stating your opinion? (yes) How do you come up with 3rd weakest schedule, How did you figure that out ? Or our new Center’s ranking ? We are going to kick some ##### again this season !! With or without you so called Bucs fan support and Gruden haters, thats a fact. ADD another division title to Gruden’s record in 08’ “GO BUCS” !!!!!!!
Posted by BigBucFan, Sarasota on 06/10 at 09:53 PM
If you guys hate the Bucs & Gruden why are you here? You criticize them, but your arguments have no merit. It is just pure ignorant hatred for what? This Fan Base is Strong, This Team is Strong. This Coaching Staff is Strong. You haters are Weak. There is no weak Division in the NFL. They are all good. Call John Abraham weak. Call Julius Peppers weak. Thes guys would crush you like Pancakes. Your the ones that Suck, not Gruden or the Bucs. Yes, I drive from Sarasota to the Games. So what? I should not have called you a Wetback Perez, but Business Man? Do you drive an ice cream truck? Your arguments stink. They are weak. This is the Pros, where real men play real Football.

Last year, Gruden led Bucs to 9 wins in the weakest division with the 3rd weakest schedule in the nfl. For an offensive genius, how high was the Bucs “O” ranked last year? After 6 years of shaping his team, how many Gruden/Allen picks are still on roster? Hint: way below average. Look at all the free agents Gruden went after who said “Take a hike.” They signed with other teams even tho Bucs had plenty of dough. Our new center is ranked about 10th in the league and yet we had to give top money to get him to come to Tampa. Kiffin is the reason for the wins. Gruden is destroying the fan base and the franchise.

What worth does Bill Muir’s word have? Of course he would stick up for Gruden, he hasn’t been able to form a good O-line in 7 years of attempts, yet Gruden has kept him around. Bill may not be a good OL coach, but he;s not stupid enough to bite the hand that feeds him.
I think Gruden/Allen are jerks and I hope they go soon. All I want is a hard nosed football minded guy like Kiffin as a coach, and a GM that has class and treats players with respect.

Sarasota Transplant Fan, I was born and raised in Tampa, have been through the horrible orangesicle years with the Bucs, just do not like Gruden, never been impressed with Gruden, now Tony Dungy, there is a great coach, one players always respect. I am proud to say, I am not a true Bucs fan anymore. A true Tampa person, a full blooded Tampon signing off, Go Colts,Jets or Chargers, the Bucs will lose again next year and you true Bucs fans will be holding on to Gruden. I am just a good businessman, fire that SOB.

Does everybody remember who we beat in the superbowl ? Yes the Oakland Raiders
Grudens team before that season. If I remember right they even went to the AFC’S championship game before that season and would have won it if it wasn’t for that bad call that gave the Patriots the win. What have they done since getting beat by Grudens new team. They have won about 10 games since the superbowl. All these people say he only won it with Dungys team, Thats a bunch of bullcrap! It was gruden that brought Jurivisious,Pittman, and McCardell to the team. They are the ones that steped up and got us over that hump and gave us our first superbowl. Now we can say we are undefeted in the superbowl so far thanks to gruden. THANK YOU GRUDEN ! YOU ARE THE MAN !

Yes, Gruden won a Super Bowl with Dungy’s team. Seems like these guys go out of the way to ##### off respectable players, while signing dirtbags like Jeremy Stevens. So it goes.

and finally (sorry!):
And if you want to get indignant about keeping a player who did everything he was supposed to when he was under contract with this team, I guess that’s your right. Just keep broadcasting your piety about the character of people who talk about games as ‘wars’ and ‘battles’ and hit people for a living. The rest of us with any sense of perspective will enjoy the show.

also:
How awesome have Sapp, Lynch, and Rice been since they left? How many Pro Bowls did they accumulate? In nearly every instance, the Bucs made the right personnel choice. Maybe they were off by a year before they fell off the planet in terms of production, but our team saved a lot of money on those gambles. Judging by Simms saying “I’m totally ready to play” (December, 2006) to “I can’t believe they wanted me to play—I wasn’t ready! <sniff>” (June, 2008), I think he’s made the right call there too.

Well said, Mr. Muir. Apparently 3 division titles in 6 years and a Super Bowl championship for a team that won the division about that many times and had zero Super Bowl titles in their previous 25+ years just isn’t enough.
He did his most masterful job coaching last year with a team in transition and with 4-12 projections all around them. He’s committed to this team and this city and the best you schmucks can do is complain complain complain about being one of 5 teams with the kind of success we’ve had in this last decade.
Posted by todd, PSJ, FL on 06/10 at 07:59 PM
Shannon, your right gruden is a good coach, we won 3 division titles and a superbowl in the last 6 yrs. and with the bad speakers thats been pluged into him. Imagine what it would sound like with good speakers.

Excuse me Mr Perez. Do you have a green card? When say you will not go back, does that mean Mexico? I’ll pay your Bus Fare if you go back. Please take Chrissy Simms with you. Muchos Gracias Senor Perez. Adios

Real coach’s and real football teams win Super Bowls beating winning teams. Check out the composite win/loss record of the teams the Buc’s played when they won their last Super bowl. A LOSING RECORD. Way to go Buc’s, you showed then, you beat losers. I rest my case.
