With Jon Gruden declining comment Tuesday, it was left for Bucs OL coach Bill Muir to defend a defending division champion still coping with the fallout from the Jerramy Stevens signing and recent public remarks by Chris Simms critical of Tampa Bay’s seventh-year coach.
“All I know is what’s going on inside this building—there is no controversy,’’ said Muir, who joined Gruden’s inaugural 2002 staff in Tampa. “There’s single purpose of mind, from the head coach to the last player on the roster. The media’s job is to stir things up and they seem to be doing a very good job of it, but it’s not being stirred inside. The controversy is from outside the building.’’
Featured RB Earnest Graham hasn’t been working out at the facility and No. 1 QB Jeff Garcia is disgruntled with his contract, but Muir is stressing the positive six weeks before Tampa Bay players and coaches head to training camp.
“You go to our board and see the participation in the offseason program, you see the effort outside here in the OTAs, you see the attention in the meeting rooms,’’ Muir said. “The only issues we have are New Orleans and Atlanta. Those are our issues. I’ve been doing this a long time and it’s an encouraging group to be around.’’
According to Simms, his relationship with Gruden is likely frayed beyond repair.
“I can only tell you this because everyone will think I’m sucking up to the head coach, but for all of those Gruden haters out there, I really don’t care,’’ said Muir. “They don’t know what a real football coach is supposed to be like. I’ve been around a real football coach or two in my life – this is a real football coach. End of story. He’s a real football coach.’’

and idk who it was who said it but they r right! its our job as fans to hope they will do good…some just r a lil to optimistic,i believe im not!

i agree James…but ? for wakeboarder…u called james imature yet he is “james from palm gay”(if i read it correctly)!
as for whoever brought up lynch sapp and rice…gruden had nothing to do with their depertures…well atleast i know sapp and lynch’s he didnt!they have a with gruden talking bout his dissapointment in the team(specifically the gm)for shiping them…and sapp and lynch are in it!!!

Thanks again, Matt.
Chief Shannon will never get it, plus a host of others.(James from Palm Gay, John Valenti, KJMoron,FatBucFans everywhere…)
It is no wonder the main thing Bucs fans do, at Buc games is get drunk and fight.
I would like to add that Gruden’s game strategy has never been genius. He has had moments, esp. in the beginning, but he has always!! been overrated as a strategist.

For the record It’s worth noting that I view a coach’s worth like:
Coach Worth = Personnel decsions + Game Strategy (Xs and Os)
I hope the math doesn’t make your head explode but that is how I am evaluating things here. Decent marks fro Strategy, horrible marks for Personnel. This has nothing to do with WWII.

Hi “Chief” Shannon,
Like I said earlier, Gruden is an excellent game strategist (Xs and Os) but a horrible personnel decisionmaker. It’s been 5 years since TB won the SB and his record is 36-44. Mediocre. So before you write your pedantic equivocation (www.dictionary.com) of how he won it legitimately, think again.
Sir(or Maam), The questions you posted are irrelevant.

I guess didn’t Dungy win with Jim Mora’s team? No wait it was Dungy’s defense and Mora’s offense. Man I guess when the Americans defeated the Nazis to end WWII it was really schewed because they did it with the American Indian’s country, but which Indians were they? That is a great question… Then we know who should get the real credit for ending WWII…
Your argument is elementary at best. I love Dungy, he is and was a great coach, so is Gruden.
THIS IS GRUDEN’S TEAM!
Go Tampa!

I got mixed feelings on Gruden. To his credit, he won a super bowl. To his discredit, it was Dungy’s team. >>>
Thanks Matt,
You just pointed out to me a weakness in Dungy, I’ve always felt he was a great ball coach, but you just illustrated to me that he couldn’t win with Dungy’s team but Gruden could, it all makes sense now. That and the fact that, wait a minute it wasn’t Dungy’s offense at all was it? And wait a minute didn’t Kiffin have something to do with the “D”?
Thanks moron!

Matthew Page, Hermosa Beach, CA, you said it all! Thanks!

Bucs are champs, “winning the “division is good enough” yes it is sometimes good enough, That means we got into the playoffs where as alot teams do not make it. “? Did you REALLY say that? Your NOT a Bucs fan. Yes, winning every year is unrealistic but, as fans its our duty to believe and want to win every game every year! Duh! However, watch the last playoff game and you tell me if the Bucs had the right recipe to beat the Giants in the first half of the game. Green Bay used the same defense! Watch the film. New England couldn’t do it because they were slow up front! Do your homework dawg! Can we all agree that this should be our year? Host AND win a superbowl?! Go BUCS!!

It takes some guy from CA to really know what is going on here.
Posted by Matthew Page, Hermosa Beach, CA on 06/13 at 07:34 PM
I got mixed feelings on Gruden. To his credit, he won a super bowl. To his discredit, it was Dungy’s team. Also, he is horrible with personnel. Cases in point: cutting Lynch, Sapp, Rice, alienating Keenan McCardell. Additionally, he signed 5 overpaid FAs so old that most never played a down, saddling the Bucs cap for years. Let’s also not forget he kept Graham as 3rd string for 4 years before letting him play. And what offensive juggernauts has he drafted?
The Xs and Os are fine, but with personnel he has been awful. He has singlehandedly taken the soul out of this team.

Yo Valenti- I will definitely not jump back on any bandwagon. Loyalty to Gruden and Allen, you and you other idiots can stay loyal. I gave up a long time ago. I could not stand Gruden anymore> Go Chargers, go Colts, Go Jets, almost anyone but the Bucs. John, I am sure you know your Bucs stuff cuz I know you. You are still a frickin dork, you just proved it. You should have read more carefully. I gave you credit cuz of your education, but your true pewter colors show. (Which happens to be far from reality.)Mine will remain orange and blue.
Posted by John Valenti, Tampa, Florida on 06/13 at 05:34 PM
Butt Boarder keeps talking about ‘hardcore’ fans and loyalty….NOTHING he’s familiar with. Apparently, it’s not cool to stick with your team through thick and thin. It makes you a wayyyy better fan when you jump on the bandwagon AFTER they win it. LOL. Don’t worry Wait-To-Jump-On-Boarder, you can dust off your Chucky shirt and hop back on the bandwagon mid season. P.S. I bet you think the Bucs shoulda got Chad Pennington. “What a real H.O.F.er HE IS!”

Yeah, I have no football intelligence, but you have no intelligence at all. I had to pick other teams because I hate Gruden that much. I do not give a crap either way, besides I do not have to believe in John Gruden BS. You keep believing his crap. He is just collecting a paycheck, he got his championship, if he wins again, it’s a bonus, but he does not care, plus he sucked the whole time anyway. He won a championship with a few key extra players, otherwise it was definitely somebody elses team. Do you want to tell me that after 1 year here that was his team?? Did you get your GED? I figured. I will stick to wakeboarding, you stick to Palm Bay, and teams near there. Oh thats right, there are none. Find a hobby, James.

heres my last words for you…STICK TO WAKEBOARDING!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by James Gonnelly, palm bay florida on 06/13 at 03:53 PM
no…u use big words cause the stuff u say is retarded! jets and the chargers…lol…if anyone agrees with wake…u need help…talk about inconsistent and not being able to get to the big game let alone win it! jets are decent 1 year and suck the next…and the chargers cant finish anything in the postseason! case and point…say im childesh all u want…u r seriously have no football intelligence at all!
Posted by WakeBoarder, Tampa on 06/13 at 03:05 PM
James- I use big words because I am educated, plus they just make sense. You, on the other hand, obviously, have the maturity of a 12 y.o.. You have no clue, like most hard core Bucs fans. Keep your BS blogging, but the real BS will be on the field this year, and all you idiots will have to face Gruden’s BS play calling, personnel decisions, and more that he has to offer. Good luck.
Posted by WakeBoarder, Tampa on 06/13 at 01:04 PM
You guys are true Bucs fans. I can tell. You are nowhere close to reality, and you still have these huge dreams. Keep dreaming. The results will be there at the end of next season, and the end of the season after that and so on, until Gruden is gone. I will be here at the end of the year, to tell you, I told you so!! I cannot wait. In the meantime, Go Anybody That Plays The Yucks, especially the Jets and the Chargers. Keep being childish, James.
Posted by James Gonnelly, Palm Bay Florida on 06/13 at 12:13 PM
By the way…with all the stupid crap coming out of ur mouth, using word like “echelon”...DOESNT MAKE U SOUND ANY SMARTER OR EVEN IN THE REALM OF KNOWING WUT U R TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So plz do us all a favor and SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by James Gonnelly, Palm Bay Florida on 06/13 at 12:10 PM
beside wakeboarder…wut team do u like?
im guessing u liked not the dolphins but dan marino!i think that were all ur gay lil bitterness comes from…“Get back to reality Bucs Fans. No, on second thought stay unrealistic, it makes it funner for me to watch the Bucs almost make it, or completely screw up again.”
Posted by James Gonnelly, Palm Bay Florida on 06/13 at 12:05 PM
im sorry wakeboarder…ur dumb…of course the talent will be the same…but then its in the coaching staffs hands to take care of that…gruden is plenty smart to do that! everyone doubted tampa’s ability to win the SB in 2002,80 percent of the fans swore they would have a just decent season!
on top of that dude…its the nfl…the freakin browns were a great team to watch…they were voted to be the worst nfl team next to the dolphins!look wut they did!
Posted by WakeBoarder, Tampa on 06/13 at 10:55 AM
John—-None, to answer your question because there is the upper echelon of the league that will have the same weapons. So Dungy won because the other teams screwed up? I wonder how many times in history we could use that sorry excuse. No just messing with you, John, you should consider using an alias, or not be so outspoken. As people, that know you will not be tempted top mess with you. This Wakeboarder is still a Gruden Hater though. Get back to reality Bucs Fans. No, on second thought stay unrealistic, it makes it funner for me to watch the Bucs almost make it, or completely screw up again. Sorry, John. Blogging is too much fun.
Posted by John Valenti, Tampa, Florida on 06/13 at 09:56 AM
I didn’t compare Gruden’s legend with that of those names stated, I compared his edge and his coaching style to those, “CrackBoarder”. Dungy went to Indy and had the same problem he did here AND WITH A CONSIDERABLY BETTER TEAM! He FINALLY got the Super Bowl after New England and Chicago $**t themselves and handed the games over. Give Gruden the QB he always wnated (Peyton, one HOF reciever and two All-Pro WR’s and tell me how many SB’s HE wins!
