A blue and yellow flag with the No. 8 on it is planted in the middle of Jefferson’s sideline.
That flag was carried onto the field before tonight’s game against Titusville Astronaut by Darrell Young, C.J. Mills’ cousin. Mills was shot and killed outside his home on April 25.
Before the game, Jefferson coach Mike Fenton gathered his team in the locker room where he dedicated the season to Mills. Fenton held Mills’ jersey, which he wore in his final game - the Dragons’ 22-21 playoff loss to Armwood - and his helmet.
Those items rested in front of the flag on the sideline. They will have a presence there for every single one of Jefferson’s games.
