Forum: Talk Rays
|
Elijah Dukes is not at Tropicana Field today. According to Rays officials, the parties decided mutually to take that course of action after the latest allegations against the troubled outfielder surfaced today.
“Just based on the events of today we’re just giving him kind of a personal day and we’re going to leave it at that,” said Rays manager Joe Maddon.
Executive vice president Andrew Friedman called Maddon earlier in the day to let him know about the decision. Maddon said he didn’t know if Dukes would play tomorrow.
Delmon Young will start in center field tonight, with Greg Norton in right. B.J. Upton remains unavailable because of a quad strain, leaving the Rays with 23 players tonight. Maddon said he didn’t give much consideration to using Carl Crawford in center.
“I just like to leave Carl alone,” said Maddon. “I think Delmon is kind of amenable to the whole situation, so I thought it was an easier thing to do. I just don’t want to mess up Carl’s vibe in left field.”

Having to work with a man like Dukes must make the Rays’ clubhouse a joyless locale.

If Freidmann hadn’t totally botched the Josh Hamilton situation, it would be much easier to just release Dukes.

It’s easy to be critical of Dukes because he’s an athlete. The babies are in large part his history as a high school student, when he was a child himself. Unfortunately, his biggest problem is Elijah Dukes and in the spotlight it’s going to be hard if not impossible to overcome the trouble he caused for himself as a teenager.

I think all of the Devil Ray fans have had enough of Dukes. It is time for the troblem outfielder to move on to another location.

So let’s see now . . . that makes 6 children by 5 different women . . . that we know of. In how many of these children’s lives will he play an active role as a loving, nurturing dad? That would probably be zero. Great role model you have there Devil Rays. None of my money will be spent at the Trop as long as this loser is on the team.

This man should not be rewarded for his behavior. This is not the kind of role model the Devil Rays wants for their fans. He needs to be made to pay the consequences for his actions.

THERE WAS A RAYS [ BAT BOY ]..WHO MADE IT WITH THE JAYS .. NOT BAD ! MAYBE -JUST MAYBE WE CAN TRADE DUKES FOR SOME BAT BOY .. IT DOES SEEM LIKE THEY WILL TRADE HIM OR JUST RELEASE HIM .. LOSING ELIJAH AND HIS TALENTS IS MUCH DIFFERENT THEN LETTING JOSH HAMILTON SLIP AWAY.. JOSH WAS MAINLY HURTING HIMSELF AND HAS RECOVERED .. ELIJAH HAS HURTING HIMSELF, OTHERS AND IS SOMEWHAT DANGEROUS ..HE NEEDS TO TAKE TIME TO GET PROFF. HELP THEN TRY AGAIN.

Ok, we need some help with Dukes and Rocco out, but Gomes is a bad in the outfield and his hitting seems weak at best. I would rather see Norton play the right field and put Damon Young in center and wait for Rocco to return. Gomes doesnt excite me.As for Jackson he needs to be opt. out, cant imagine him in a bullpen spot.
