Tampa Tribune reporter Roy Cummings caught Cato June around the Bucs facility this afternoon, and although he did not say much, he was willing to talk about his DUI arrest.
“I really don’t have much to say about it ... I can’t say nothing, not right now at least ... I’m hungry,” June said.
Bucs coach Jon Gruden said he fully supported June during his normally scheduled Monday morning press conference.
“Well, we’re going to address it. We will address it privately with Cato,” Gruden said. “Obviously, anytime one of the players or coaches are involved in something like this, we’ll address it. I don’t believe it will be a distraction, but I think it can be something we all certainly learn from, grow from and we’re going to support our players anytime we can.
“We love Cato. I don’t think you’re going to find a better young man, but we’ll get the information on this and we’ll respond to it when we have all the facts.”
Tampa police arrested June, who turned 28 on Sunday, on North Dale Mabry Highway near Hillsborough Avenue at 2:52 a.m., according to a Tampa police report. In an arrest affidavit, Tampa police Officer Peter Bucher said his radar clocked June’s 2005 blue Cadillac sport utility vehicle at 66 mph on Dale Mabry Highway at Osborne Avenue. The Cadillac was in a 45 mph zone, the affidavit said.
The officer said he approached June and detected the smell of alcohol on his breath. June also had bloodshot and glassy eyes, the officer said in the affidavit.
June had a team-high nine tackles during Tampa Bay’s 31-7 victory against Atlanta on Sunday. He also forced a fumble by Falcons wide receiver Roddy White. June has recorded 49 tackles so far this year, 35 of which were unassisted, plus forced one fumble and has one interception.
“We have to [rally around June],” Bucs linebacker Derrick Brooks said. “Obviously I don’t know when and what happened, but this have been a team that has always backed each other through trial and it’s not going to change now, believe me. We’re going to hug the man and obviously learn from his mistake. He’s going to learn from his mistake and we’re going to move on. It’s not anything we’re going to harp on.”

Will he do it again? I hope not! Is there a chance? Absolutely!!! He Drinks!!!!!
DUI has become a major target of the ppl who are “christians” “religous” and they themselves are guilty of same said offense!!!
The kid made a mistake? Why not just feed him to the lions?
Next time you are having an after work cocktail~ remember to stop at 1!!!!!

Vern, the Indianapolis Colts led the league in arrests this past off-season….someone will dispute this but please look it up…if they weren’t #1 they were until right before training camp…..who is Indy’s coach?

The guys a football player! He did a stupid thing. But get real about it, have to agree with the previous comment, many of the people so apalled have driven after drinking, he’s a human being who happens to play football. It’s kinda like Clinton, i don’t give a damn what he’s doing as long as he beats the hell out of other teams. It’s a personal matter to be dealt with.

Right on Fish!!! DUI’s are serious. For all of those defending him, look at the arrest report. He was out at 2:35 a.m. driving 66 m.p.h. in a 45 zone. As Forest Gump would say: “stupid is as stupid does.” Get a Cab with that 2.5 million dollar salary of yours…IDIOT…..Sheeeeese.
How dumb is that???

Team coaching techniques & training have been revolutionized over the years. If it exist, a few things we don’t hear from the press is the way young players are guided by an NFL team organization once they come into instant wealth. It’s inconceivable that an organization like the Bucs don’t have in place initial mandatory money management training and other life nurturing seminar for their players. These ongoing training could then turn into voluntary. All teams should have a Chaplain as well 24/7 for their players, in providing them guidance too. The more a team can do for its players from the start will not only help them off the field, but on the field as well, and society at large.

Yeah Vern, GET OVER IT! Gruden is here to stay baby! I hope all you Bucs doubters out there finally realize that Gruden’s system calls for an intelligent, game manager who can make a big play when called upon. All the talent in the world doesn’t do anything for you if you don’t have a certain fire/confidence (see Simms, Eli, Rivers).

Hey Vern, guess who Cato played for last year….btw I’m sure Gruden was actually out with Cato at the bar forcing the alcohol down his throat. The Bucs are winning and Gruden is staying. I love dungy but he’s been gone for almost six years now, GET OVER IT!!!!!!

Depending on your job, most people don’t get fired or punished at work if they get a DUI. It’s something that people deal with personally. And i don’t care who you are, 99% of people who drink should have at some point in time gotten a DUI. So quit judging him.

Happy Birthday Cato! Was it worth it?

He should get the same treatment by his employer, or the courts that everybody else gets no special treatment favorable or non-favorable. DUI is serious! Nothing I’ve heard to this point suggest it a chronic problem, so let’s treat it as such, until we know otherwise.

Come on guy. I know it was your birthday and you wanted to celebrate - ok. But why did you have to drive? With all of the money you guys are making - can’t you hire a driver or a Taxi or something. You don’t drink alone - come on - celebrate and get a cab. This is a team thing and it should be handled in a team manner. Guys - Police yourselves - so the other Police don’t have to.
