Bucs Rumored To Be Talking Trade With Vikings

TAMPA – We’ll say this about Bucs GM Bruce Allen: he’s out there trying. That’s word anyway.
Talk in Minnesota this morning is that Allen has been trying to swing a deal with the Vikings that would bring tackle Bryant McKinnie and running back Chester Taylor to Tampa Bay.
Only time will tell if such a deal goes down, but that would be one heck of deal. McKinnie is the Vikings starting left tackle and Taylor is coming off a career-best 1,200-yard rushing season.
Taylor missed a couple of games because of a hip injury he suffered in the season opener but he started the game last week against Green Bay and had eight carries for 40 yards.
The Vikings could probably afford to let Taylor go, what with Adrian Peterson getting most of the work at tailback. Still, this deal seems a little far-fetched.
McKinnie and Taylor are not old players nearing the end of their careers. They’re still relatively young and both should just now be entering the prime of their careers.
Not only that, but the Vikings are not out of the running in an NFC North race that is currently as upside down as NFC South race is. Though they’re 1-3, they still have a chance to fight their way to the top.
Everything depends, though, on what the Bucs are willing to part with. A deal at this time of year would almost certainly include an exchange of players, but the Bucs may also be willing to part with a draft pick.
We’re not suggesting that pick would be a first- or second-rounder, but the Bucs no doubt feel they have a chance at making a legitimate playoff run this year, so they may be willing to pay a lot.
Something else the Bucs have to factor into the equation is the future of RB Cadillac Williams. Torn patellar tendons are difficult to come back from. Some prove impossible to come back from.

If Williams injury is the latter sort, the Bucs will have to start anew their search for a feature back. Taylor may not be the best answer but a team could do a lot worse.
A good pass catcher and runner, he’s a good fit in a West Coast type of scheme. And like we said before, he’s still young. Some scouts believe he’s got starter potential and only needs a chance to play regularly.
As for McKinnie, he’s a solid starter. Many believe he could become an elite-level player with better coaching and more focus on the game. He could even prove to be an upgrade over Luke Petitgout.
Weighing all of that, the feeling here is that this deal never goes down. It may be just a bad rumor anyway, but you can bet Allen is out there slugging away, trying to do something to offset the loss of Williams and Petitgout.

No way the Vikings should get Galloway.  I say Chris Simms and a 2nd round pick for either Taylor (who’s injured anyway) or Moore AND McKinnie.  That’s more than fair, especially since Simms is light years better than the entire QB depth chart in Minnesota.

What about Tiki Barber???????

Posted by  Darryl Gaines, Alabama on 10/03  at  04:57 PM

I’m with the vikings and i say that even if we get a qb he’s not gonna play anytime soon. I say we trade chester and mickinnie for galloway and 1st this year and 2nd round next year

Hey, why don’t the Bucs just trade for Onterio Smith while there at it?!?  Mewelde Moore?!? No thanks, not worth the trade.

Get Darby in the mix with Graham and Pittman.

Give the Vikings Simms, Clayton, and atleast a second rounder for McKinnie and Taylor and the Bucs have a deal! wink

This would be an interesting trade, and it would probably make the Bucs better immediately at the expense of their long term prospects.. and vice-versa for the Vikings.

It does seem like a long shot, but if you want a 7 million dollar LT, and a 4 million dollar starting RB, I think the writer of this article will need to suggest a first or second round pick.

While people here complain about McKinnie because of his inconsistency, as usual fairweather short-memory NFL fans don’t realize how hard it is to find a quality LT.  McKinnie will be dominant one week, and give up 3 sacks the next..but he is a top 10 LT.  Anything less than a first round pick without a quality player added to the deal and the Bucs would be stealing.

Mewelde Moore is probably more likely to be traded. He’s still pretty good and relegated to the bench. He’d be an upgrade over what the Bucs currently have.

Could we throw in Brad Childress, also?
He has some #####-a-mamy idea of grooming T. Jackson, Adrian Peterson, and Jerry Rice…...........oops, I mean Sydney Rice, in the mold of the greatest offense of all time.(You can look it up!) Namely, Randall Cunningham, Chris Carter, and Robert Smith. Oh yeah, and some kid who mooned Packer fans.

We’ll take chris simms, Joey Galloway, and your first pick.

i say just bring up darby and run with pitt, graham, and darby….i think with these three backs we would do just fine…now the oline is a big deal…yes we have penn and davis…but the experience and leadership luke brung on the field will be missed most…like i said b4…this game with the colts is the “biggest test this team will get this season”...we win this game and dont get any futher injuries…this is going to be a very interesting year… like it isnt already but this team has honestly surpised me this season so far and i see a team that has really came together…LETS KEEP POUNDING THAT ROCK BABY….IM OFF TO INDY TO SEE THE GAME…..GO BUCS

Simms and Michael Clayton (we’ll miss ya guys) for Chester Taylor and a 4th Round pick. Screw McKinnie, as someone said, too big of a guaranteed salary.

The Bucs don’t need this trade. Penn has played well when he’s had to step in. The more he plays the better he’ll get and could possibly be a positive surprise. Bucs should stay in their own house for RBs. Graham and Pittman have stepped up well and Darby should be moved up from the practice squad and be prepped as a backup. Seriously consider using the big FB Askew a lot more for heavy straight ahead pounding. He’s a good blocker and receiver who can give Garcia added protection and a checkdown receiver out of the backfield.

I’m in agreement for bringing in a Tackle, but we don’t need to part with picks for a running back.  The truth is that Pitt and Graham are serviceable backs that can share the load for us.  But, the o-line cannot afford to lose its best player and have him replaced by Donald Penn.  Lets be real, the RB situation isn’t that bad, but the o-line cannot be neglected.

Joe, when you move out of your mom’s basement, you can start calling me names.  For now, enjoy your meatloaf and shut up.

Trade Michael Clayton for Leon Washington!

Posted by  david birch, san mateo on 10/02  at  03:16 PM

is there any buzz about bringing in obafemi ayanbadejo for a look (he was cut today by chicago)...9 yr. vet that can play special teams and seem to be okay as a receiver out of the backfield…just a thought…

Derek Robertson is a moron. Don’t listen to his mad ramblings.

I THINK WE’D BE JUST FINE WITH GRAHAM AND PITTMAN, SCREW A TRADE!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by  Alex Nesemann, plymouth,wi on 10/02  at  02:39 PM

I think the vikings are looking for a QB.  Put Jeff Garcia in there and it’s a done deal.  Two young up coming players for a guy with three or four years in him.

Posted by  CHARLES ORIAL, TAMPA on 10/02  at  02:38 PM

I don’t think this deal is out of reach. We’ve got a ton of money under the cap and we have to start thinking about the future of the running back position. Cadillac has a long tough rehab in front of him, history of that injury will tell you that. If Bruce Allen makes this deal happen, WOW!! A great left tackle and sold running back. Lets do it, GO BUC’S

further update from indy:  starting strong-side lb rob morris is having season ending knee surgery…te ben utecht suffered a concussion against denver and, according to gm polian is “doubtful for the bucs game”...wr harrison will probably play but is less than 100% (team doctors insisted on holding him out of the second half against denver)...indy is beat up and this week may be the most vunerable they have been in a long time…

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the one position we have a surplus of that Minnesota is hurting: Quarterback.  The Vikings’ QB situation is terrible.  Trade any one of the QBs other than Garcia, throw in Anthony Davis to make up for their loss of McKinney, and a draft pick.  Win-win for both teams.

Posted by  Vikings Rule, Minnesota on 10/02  at  02:26 PM

As a life long Viking fan, I would love to make this trade too, depending on what we can get back.  Chester Taylor is a solid RB, but he’s taking carries away from AP, and it’s clear Peterson will be the RB of the future in Minnesota.  McKinnie has been an underachiever his entire career and has a ridiculously huge salary.  Take McKinnie…PLEASE!!  I’m just not sure what Tampa has to offer in return.  We need WR’s and QB’s, and I don’t really like anything you’ve got.  We need more than just draft picks.

Ronde calling Tiki…come in Tiki, over…come to the BUCS bro!!!!

Posted by  Billy, Seffner on 10/02  at  02:15 PM

Hope they deal Chris Simms, we do not need him. We have about 25 QB,s in Tampa now.
