TAMPA – The Bucs may have found the running back they’ve been looking for in Kansas City.
Word out of that town late Monday was that the Bucs were working a deal that would bring Michael Bennett to Tampa. Details of the trade, which would have to be completed by 4 p.m. today, were uncertain.
For Bennett, however, a backup who has run the ball just 20 times for 52 yards this year, the Bucs would probably be asked to surrender nothing more than a second-day draft pick.
Such a move would bolster the Bucs corps of running backs. It would give them a veteran back who has the ability to run the ball and catch passes out of the backfield.
The Bucs have been on the lookout for a back since Cadillac Williams and Michael Pittman went down with injuries, leaving the Bucs to start their third-string tailback and third-string fullback.
The Bucs signed veteran Zack Crockett and former Buc Lionel Gates last week to fill the void at the position but vowed to keep looking for upgrades, primarily at tailback.
Any search the Bucs have begun will have to end today at 4 p.m. as that is the deadline for trades to be consummated this season. The report on Bennett comes one day after the Bucs were limited to just 30 yards rushing in a 13-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans at Raymond James Stadium.
In the last two weeks the Bucs have produced just 47 rushing yards, the fewest in the league over that stretch.

The Saints traded Michael Bennett away in the offseason. On the New Orleans roster he was the sixth RB. What do the Bucs need with a number six RB. They already have a bunch of 4, 5, and 6s. What they need is a true 1 or 2. That is not going to happen! Keep dreaming and wasting more draft picks.

Great to see the Bucs land a viable RB like Bennett. Anyone thinking we could trade for Turner or even Droughns (please no more Tatum Bell talk)at this time and given the role that they fill for their current teams is a DEE.
Bennett is a good move; with little given up and adding depth and versatility to the RB corp.
Hopefully Bennett will soak up the Florida air and experience new, injury free life as a Buc - it really wasn’t that long ago that he was THE guy in MN.
If this move pans out and helps the Bucs into the playoffs, maybe Allen can hang on to his job another year.

Idiots… please.. noone is giving up Turner. i hate people who don’t know Jack and act like the coaches don’t either… trades take partners.. if noone is interested, you can’t trade. besides, keep Tatum Bell and Droughns…yuck

You can get a heck of a RB with a second round pick. Too big a price to pay for a back up. Give em Stovall since Gruden doesn’t know what to do with him. Does anyone else wonder why we have Matt Jones and Clayton running back kickoffs? Neither one will ever run one back.

Bennett has a lot of speed and i think he will fit the BUCS system. I know it in my bones that this is a playoff year. GO BUCS

a trade for bennett would be interesting…he’s a speedy back and we shouldnt have to give up a first day pick for him. Also i would inquire about Lee Suggs. He’s a good back with speed and size.

Word out of Cincinnati was the Bucs had inquired about the availability of Chris Perry RB (Michigan) who just came off the PUP list in a trade involving Jeremiah Trottier. If the Bucs don’t acquire Bennett look for Chris Perry to be acquired in exchange for Trottier.

This is GREAT pick-up. Shouldn’t cost too much, and has a good deal of upside. Bennett is fast and even runs with some deceptive power. He catches the ball extremely well and is elusive in the open field. To be honest, Bennett has “starter” potential, he just ran into some bad luck in KC - by “bad luck” I mean Larry Johnson.
This is the type of deal that needed to get done. Bennett will be an immediate improvement over the RBs we have. I can’t even explain how excited I am to get this done.

Hey Aaron go back and play with your legos. Men are talking forrbtall and you obviously don’t know that. Don’t you realize that no team in their right minsd would trade for turner when he is going to be a free agent next year anyway? We’d lose high draft picks and still have to risk him leaving next year. Stop with the turner talk. Maybe next season dee-de-dee…Now, glad to hear so many good things about Bennett from you guys. Great receiver and a runner who has big run capabilities. He is proven he can get it done, but has had injury problems. Not a bad move for depth and a potential, while practically costing nothing. Thank for some restraint(Glazers) in the organization.

Great job by the BUCS in Acquiring Bennett. This will give us a strong back with speed as well. The BUCS and Gruden do not have the time to mold another rookie RB. They have to win now with a veteran RB. And forget about Michael Turner, the Chargers will not trade him.And Ruben Droughns is too slow. GO BUCS!!!

Hey guys, stop with the M Turner that will never happen. T Bell fumble too much and R Droughen is to slow. So the M Bennett trade is a good 1. He ran the ball good during preseason and he is fresh from not playing alot during the first 5 or 6 games. With Detroit coming up next we really don’t need a running game because they can’t stop the pass. So that gives Bennett an extra week to get ready for Arizona. The Bucs should be 7-2 or 6-3 going into the bye week. Bucs win the division and lose to the cowboys or giants in the NFC Championship game. GO BUCS BABY

don’t sell the future for a back now. Wait till draft time and get one that you can mold to the bucs style from day one. I don’t think the caddy is the one for us.

Not a bad piece of business and Bennett does have pace. Earnie for me is still the man to go to - but how long can Garcia’s run of “No Picks” continue if we don;t activate our running game again and become more varied than last week in offence?

I also heard this morning that the deal was done, he is officially a Buc. they announced it this morning on the local news.

I live in KC and ive seen Bennet run. He is a good back with lots of speed and has great hands. He will be a perfect fit for tampa. hes like a quicker Pittman. Im from tampa, always been a bucs fan and this is a reat steal for the Bucs. Go Bucs

Obviously Turner is off the radar screen now, what ever happened with Tatum Bell or Rueben Droughns? We need a sure handed guy that has seen touches this year. Haven’t seen Bennett play a down all year.

Michael Bennett would be a good addition to the team as he is not only a good runner with the ball he also a good reciever out of the backfield as well

I Think It Was A Very Good Choice!

The MIchael Bennett trade is a done deal, accoriding to the Kansas City Star’s Adam Teicher. What the Chiefs received in return was immediately unclear. The Chiefs declined to confirm the deal, but Bennett said he was informed of the trade by officials of both teams.
“I’m sure I’ll get to play down in Tampa, but I’m kind of sorry to leave the Chiefs,†said Bennett, acquired by the Chiefs from New Orleans last year for a draft pick. “I felt this was a great place. I got to be like a big brother to a lot of the other players. I’ve spent all night talking to guys on the team and saying good-bye.â€
Look for Priest Holmes to be activated this week.

I think this move is right on the money. Don’t get me wrong I like Graham he has the power, but he lacks considerable speed. There were some lanes he just didn’t have the speed or explosiveness to take advantage of during this past Sunday’s game and even though he caught a few balls out of the back field during a few check downs, the prior limited his yards after the catch. That said, I think a player like Bennett will be a great change of pace back. Also, noting that LT D. Penn played well during this game I can see our rushing yardage climbing back up there in the near future. However, I’d still like to see a proven veteran fill that role.

that move would be worthless. why not go big? Gruden/Allen need to go for michael turner. he is young, fast, fresh. being lt’s back up has kept him fresh for the 1st 4yrs of his career. he is 5’10” and 240 lbs. if gruden wants to “pound that rock” then he is the man. there is NO back that will be available in april that can compare to Turner. he is worth a 1st rd pick or a 2nd rd pick and a player (stovall). we are 4-2 and making a push for the playoffs, gruden/allen need to go big and get turner. that would change the outlook of our team and make us a legitament contender.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm we gotta be back to pound the rock and rack up some yards each game to open up the passing game. If we average 90 yards a game that should help out Garcia and our receivers!
Luv ya Chucky! Go Bucs!

MICHAEL BENNETT IS REALLY FAST. HE ALSO RAN FOR 1200 YARDS IN 2002. ID STILL RATHER SEE TURNER.

i think bennett would be solid pickup and we really wouldnt be losing anything for him….i like this move if it goes through….

Hey Greg D…the article said second DAY pick not second round. This was an absolutely awesome deal. I didn’t think we could do this good. Bell and Droughns don’t have half the skills Bennett possesses. If he stays healthy and picks up the offense relatively quickly, then I think we’ve got a steal and a playoff spot.
