Bucs Interested In Eddie Kennison

Tampa Bay might be interested in acquiring another reciever to increase productivity from that position.

Former Kansas City standout receiver Eddie Kennison is currently on Tampa Bay’s radar. John Hamilton, Kennison’s agent, confirmed the 13-year veteran worked out for Tampa Bay’s coaching staff on Monday. Hamilton also said Kennison, who was hindered by a torn hamstring last season, passed the physical.

“Tampa Bay is one of the clubs we’re talking to right now. It is the only one he agreed to visit,” Hamilton said. “I think he would really love to play for Coach Jon Gruden.”

Kennison, 35, has 548 career receptions for 8,345 yards and 42 touchdowns. He was originally a first round draft pick by the St. Louis Rams in 1996.

However, last season’s injury slowed Kennison, who had only 13 receptions for 101 yards and no touchdowns.

Gruden previously said WR Joey Galloway was Tampa Bay’s only clearcut No.1 receiver and competition for the other spots were wide open.

If Tampa Bay is interested in signing Kennison, it likely will not happen until June 1. On that date, teams can cut a player and the salary cap hit would not apply until the following season.
