LAKE BUENA VISTA - The latest Brett Favre rumors have him talking with the Bucs about a possible trade - again.
We’ve heard these reports before, but the Favre saga seems to be nearing an end and the latest report from ESPN has Favre showing a willingness to talk to the Bucs.
Shortly after 5 p.m. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen went on the air by telephone to report that Favre had agreed to talk with the Bucs about a possible trade later today, but that those talks had not yet taken place.
Favre was given permission to talk to the Bucs previously but he reportedly passed on the opportunity. It could be that he has finally given in to the Packers’ refusal to release him or move him to a team of his choice and that he now realizes the only way for him to play again is with a team such as the Bucs.
Bucs Coach Jon Gruden left his team’s afternoon practice Tuesday saying he hadn’t heard anything about a deal that would bring Favre to the Bucs.
Favre admitted earlier in the day to being at a stalemate with the Packers, who don’t appear to want him back in any capacity. It is believed that Favre’s desire is to play for the Vikings or maybe the Bears, but a deal that would result in that seems unlikely.

As a lifelong Bucs fan, I think Farve would be our best bet to be the first team to host and play in a Super Bowl. Trade for Simms? No, but maybe Garcia. We need to send Simms to the Giants for an apple and a bag of footballs.
For what it is worth, Farve is not Montana. But, if he is even a fraction as productive as Joe was, we could be in for a heck of a season.

I think it is the most stupid thing the buc could ever do.

Tampa should swing a Deal with the Packers. Chris Simms for Brett Favre Straight up!! Of course Favre would have to agree to restructure that $36Million 3year Contract so the Bucs aren’t bogged down. Then allow Favre to buy out his contract and let the Minnesota Migration begin. The Bucs never made much of a splash when they were in the same division….NOW THEY CAN!! lol

Favre is the only reason I would decide to watch the Bucs this NEXT season, after Gruden’s slow ruination of the Bucs. He is a great QB and a great man, maybe some of his greatness could spread to the scumbags that Gruden/ Allen have on their team.

For those of you that think that Tampa, if they do acquire Favre from GB, would then send him up to Minnesota…forget it. I guarentee there will be a clause in the trade that states no future trades until at least after the 2008 season. As a Packer fan, I hope Tampa does get Favre in a trade. He had a great run in GB, but after grooming Rodgers for three years to replace him and drafting two QB’s this year, it was time to move on.

Please do not do this. I will ruin our season Stop and think about this It takes about 2 seasons to get in groove with Grudens playbook He is a one year shot thats it

Jesse, I remember when Joe Montana played for KC. I was sitting on the 50-yard-line at the Old Sombrero when he lit us up…something like 48-10. And, he brought the Chiefs all the way to the AFC championship. If it hadn’t been for the concussions he probably would’ve played at least another year or two, and likely would’ve had one more shot at the ring. So, it wasn’t the embarassment you say, except to the 49ers.
I don’t think there’s time left to have Favre learn the whole playbook, and I worry that we’ll get the Favre from 2 years ago who looked hopeless on the field, but part of me would like to see what Gru could do with a top-notch QB for a season or two. How can you not be curious?

Jesse,
One of my all time favorite NFL games was when Montana led KC to an improbable 4th quarter win at Denver—his only win at Mile High. Yes, I remember Montana with KC and he was not only a tremendous improvement over what they had, but was simply great. Favre could be that to the Bucs too. By the way, to everyone who points to Favre’s NFC Campionship game performance as an indication that he’s over the hill—I only wish we Bucs fans could complain about losing the Conference Championship game to the eventual SB champs instead of wheezing out in the first round at home…again!

corrected: Favre is the most overrated QB EVER. for all the accolades and people saying he gives a team a better chance to win the super bowl, look at the facts. He had a GREAT three years (1995-1997) but still only won 1 super bowl. other than those three years he is 5-8 in the playoffs with a 21-22 TD to INT ratio. stats like that do not me on Favre being a lock to get the bucs to a superbowl

what makes you think that the bucs would not trade favre to the vikings for higher and more draft picks than they would give up. i can see this being more than a two team deal with the bucs also getting rid of another qb.

I think it would be a mistake, I don’t think he would play any better than Garcia in his first year and I think he’s past his prime. You could see it in the playoff game vs. the Giants last year. All that said….
If it does happen and he does come here I won’t disrespect him on these forums or in the stands. He is one of the all time greats and has every attribute I look for in a great football player and a great person. If he comes here he should be treated like the legend he is….I just hope he doesn’t come here.

Ever since Brett gave Warren Sapp an “at-a-boy” moments after leaving a Favre-sized hole in the turf, I had to appreciate the guy for his character and would love to have him come to Tampa, and not just for his talent, who wouldn’t want a living legend to play on their team? But seeing Brett in anything other than a green jersey is like snow in summer - something’s just not right! If Brett comes here I say roll out the red carpet and appreciate our good fortune. Those management idiots in Green Bay should be ashamed of themselves.

It’s just embarrassing. No other team is even making an effort. GB doesn’t even want him back and yet we are acting like we might win the lottery.
Get thru the year with what we have a FINALLY make that leap of faith to get a 1st round QB next draft. THAT’S what we need to do.

Look, I love Farve. He is the ironman and I can only dream of what it would have been like if he spent the better part of two decades throwing for the Bucs…but that didn’t happen. Brett is now past his prime and will not make us a better team.
Does anyone remember Montanna in Kansas City? If Brett comes here it will just be another embarrassing part of Tampa Bay history. He’ll stink it up for a year, maybe two and people will say how he shoulda bowed out gracefuly. Why do we need to be that team that is basing our dreams on someone elses washed up seconds?
Look at Bretts stats in 2006, his first year under a new system. He stunk and he will stink here if he comes here.
Brett, Plz don’t come here to die.

Kevin C in WI, I definitely see your point. GreenBay management did a terrible job with this situation. They should have brought Favre back the first day he said he wanted back. If it was salary cap, then they should have renegotiated his contract. I think this decision will haunt the Packers & cost Thompson his job very soon. People criticize Allen & Gruden all the time, but they have built a good winning team. So having said that Kevin…welcome to the Bucs. Now is the best time to buy a house here. Deals, deals & tickets are still available, but not for long. Buc4Life

I was born and raised in Wisconsin and moved to Florida a few years back. I have been a Packer fan my entire life. However, I can’t under our current general management on how they handle this entire debacle. If Favre is indeed traded to the Bucs, which that seems to be the case, you can consider me a Bucs fan! Ted Thompson should be fired!

PS: I wonder if Brett’s thinking that he may be able to press the Bucs into trading him to MN by being uncooperative in camp…Childess, yes, but this whole situation is as well.

Some of you hate Favre and some of you love Favre. It will be an addition to bring Favre because to be honest with you Favre can deff lead us to the Superbowl. If he could do it in Green Bay I am positive he can do it in Tampa. Adam Schefter from the NFL Network just said that New York Jets is not playing Green Bay but Tampa Bay is playing against Green Bay on the 4th game and he wants to play against Green Bay. So what does that tell us? Is that he might end up in Tampa not only because he wants to play against the Packers but to win a Super Bowl and that could happen here in Tampa and you never know what can happen!

I’ve been a Packers fan for a long time…but through all of this I realized that I am a Packers fan because of Brett Favre. I’d rather see him play for Green Bay, but if it doesn’t work out that way, and Tampa Bay gets him…I’ll still cheer for Brett (even when Tampay plays GB). Brett is the very rare type of player that you find yourself cheering for him as much, if not more, than the team he plays for. So…Tampa Fans…if you get him…congratulations! He’ll give you many great memories and an istant chance to win! He is flat out a winner.

I went to Southern Miss when Brett played, and as a senior, he was promoted for Heisman, though he never got the Heisman, he got the ultimate ring, and came close last year. His experience will overcome the new playbook—Enjoy the moment, the ride, and he will play great where he is wanted and appreciated…Go Bucs! Win with Brett!
