Report: Favre Agrees To Talk With Bucs

LAKE BUENA VISTA - The latest Brett Favre rumors have him talking with the Bucs about a possible trade - again.

We’ve heard these reports before, but the Favre saga seems to be nearing an end and the latest report from ESPN has Favre showing a willingness to talk to the Bucs.

Shortly after 5 p.m. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen went on the air by telephone to report that Favre had agreed to talk with the Bucs about a possible trade later today, but that those talks had not yet taken place.

Favre was given permission to talk to the Bucs previously but he reportedly passed on the opportunity. It could be that he has finally given in to the Packers’ refusal to release him or move him to a team of his choice and that he now realizes the only way for him to play again is with a team such as the Bucs.

Bucs Coach Jon Gruden left his team’s afternoon practice Tuesday saying he hadn’t heard anything about a deal that would bring Favre to the Bucs.

Favre admitted earlier in the day to being at a stalemate with the Packers, who don’t appear to want him back in any capacity. It is believed that Favre’s desire is to play for the Vikings or maybe the Bears, but a deal that would result in that seems unlikely.

Thanks for the responsible journalism Roy.  But do yourself a favor.  Distance yourself from that moron Ira.  He write garbage and if I were the editor - I’d fire his sorry butt.  Readers aren’t stupid and they can smell a gloryhound when they see it.  If you don’t tell it like it really is - people are gonna find out your lying and your credibility goes out the window.  This is the case w/ Ira.  Bring in Brett if management so desires - BUT LET’s “FIRE IRA”!  Besides - IRA’s a girls name - which obviously fits him well.

Favre to Tampa would be the best addition in years. Get your #4 Jerseys on order.

Mr. Favre welcome to Tampa. Think of how many Superbowl rings you would have if you came here in 1999. As a bonus, we’ll even bring Warren Sapp out of retirement.

ps. they are only 4 months and 12 days apart in age. wasnt garcia able to learn grudens offense last year? so why wouldnt bret be able to? because he has three weeks less to learn the garcia did? bret also has 8yrs in the nfl more than garcia. i think one of the greatest of ALL TIME could figure it out unless he made it this far by being a moron who just happens to be able to throw a football.

Posted by  steve, tampa on 08/06  at  01:37 AM

garcia only made the probowl because bret opted not to play.he was not voted in.lets look at this thing realisticly.garcia hasnt throw over 18tds in a season since 03-bret has never thrown less ever(rookie season did not play).jeff hasnt thrown for over 2700yds since 02-bret hasnt throw under 3200 ever(rookie).qb rating for career is a 2point difference(87JG-85BF).there td-int ratio is almost exactly the same 1.9tds for ever 1int.  if the bucs O can put up more points and with the bucs D they will win more games plain and simple.

I hope Brett goes to Tampa. For all of you who say he’s “washed up” or has a “huge ego” don’t know anything about Favre or what’s going on. There are things that will come out soon enough that will make everyone with a brain understand why Favre went about things the way he did. There have been a lot of rumors floating around by “sources” that the media have reported that just aren’t true. He was bitter when he retired because of things that have gone on for 3 years. What’s the worst thing Favre has done wrong? Changed his mind? NFL teams and fans welcome back players who get arrested for drugs, battery, weapons, etc but people can’t forgive Favre for wanting to play football again? Trust me Tampa you will LOVE Favre.

Interesting…

Well, if Tampa does have a great defense, and all is needed is a good QB, then maybe y’all are in for a treat. I still think the Bucs will need better targets for Favre, but who knows, maybe it won’t be needed. I bet Favre would learn the play book, and I would be more worried about playing against a Buc’s offense with Favre than I would with Garcia; that’s for sure. I may not be a Buc fan, but I think Favre would do the Bucs a lot of good. I think Favre would make the Bucs a playoff contender.

I am shocked to hear so many people against this.  Look i would feel bad for Garcia, but other then that this is a smart move to make.  The Bucs have not had a franchise QB for so many years so why would anyone find this move shocking?  Its what we always do, but now we have extended our QB situation by a couple of years with a HOF player.  I think our young OLine would rally behind his leadership in a heartbeat.  Yeah i dont like the way he is creating a media circus but trust me, that will go away in time.  I think the upside of this far outweighs the downside.  Like i said, i do feel bad for Garcia, but this has to be a business as well.  Do him right and trade him away soon so he can re-establish himself soon too.

How can anyone not like the thought of a long term proven QB like Favre coming to Tampa?  Even if Brett worked his way into the lineup during the season, think about what Gruden did with Rich Gannon in Oakland!  Maybe Gruden would finally be happy with Favre at QB, since he has had a ton of them in Tampa and constantly looks for more.

OMG! X-mas in August! Did you Hear That! That cascade of a waterfall sound…..its my wife and all her girl friends. They now want to go to Bucs Games…I haven’t been this sick to my stomach since Brad Pitt came riding in on a white horse in the A River runs through IT! I’m gonna throw-up now…they’re making plans to go to the Bucs-Packr game and the comments @#$%! This is worst then the Volley SCene from TopGUN.  Is this the same Brett Farve who has scortched the Bucs in the Redzone and every other team. Who has a stronger arm then Garcia? Men lock-up your wife and girl friends, your tickets, a specially you Jeff. Brett Farve is coming to town and bringn a big Gun!

This favre talk is stupid. He couldn’t learn Grudens offense in time. don’t you remember when mcarthy went to GB, Favre didn’t want to “learn new things”
This whole thing is crap

Favre is the highest rated quarterback in NFL history. Green Bay’s coach and GM have no respect for Favre’s achievements. Would I want Favre here as our starting QB the year we are hosting a Super Bowl? HECK YEAH! This is THE scenario Tampa NEVER expected.  We get a guy who has NEVER missed a game, who wants to prove he should be playing this year, and someone who is a seasoned leader. With him, we would be complete. Those on the news tonight who all said “we don’t want Favre here,” had to be nuts, drunk or both. We need his leadership, his experience, his professionalism, and the excitement having him would bring.  Let’s get behind this Tampa! Go Favre and GO BUCS!

FARVE IN MY EYES IS WASHED UP. WE DO NOT NEED HIM IN TAMPA

Posted by  Dave, Hornell, NY on 08/05  at  10:05 PM

If the Bucs do trade for Brett, we will hear Jeff garcia crying all the way up here in New York LOL

Posted by  Fred, Valrico on 08/05  at  10:03 PM

Carlos is absolutely right. This would be nothing but a media circus. Every errant throw, every interception would be scrutinized by the national media. Training camp would become a difficult place for players to focus.
And what would the Bucs have to give up to bring in a 38 year old guy that has little left in the tank at this point? A first rounder?
Could the guy even learn a new playbook in three weeks?
The current players have come out and said they support and respect Garcia. Bringing in Favre would send a message “yes you did a pro bowl type job…so now were going to replace you”. You can’t possibly be this stupid Bruce! Why would you bring this circus here?

Old quarterbacks come to Tampa to retire thanks to Grudens love affair with QB’s.

Correction:

Hall of Fame quarterback comes to Tampa to retire with one more SuperBowl ring thanks to Gruden’s love affair with great QBs.

Brett Favre is a Hall of Famer. He deserves to play on a team with Derrick Brooks on the Defense. This would be cool, to see two first ballot Hall of Fame players win a Superbowl together…At home!!!

The people complaining about his ego don’t understand the difference between winners at QB and Losers…

Posted by  Clayton, Corning, ny on 08/05  at  09:56 PM

luke, the problem is that Bret does not mentor. his opinion is “why should i tell someone how to take my job?”

Posted by  Tim O'Brien, Wesley Chapel on 08/05  at  09:55 PM

Put massive ego aside, Brett is this team’s best chance to win! Wasn’t Garcia just crying about his contract!!!! Nobody forced him to sign it last year! Brett with one arm is twice what Garcia ever was or will be!

Posted by  Drew, Milpitas, CA. on 08/05  at  09:52 PM

Just the leadership he brings to the team is worth the trade. The level of mentoring Luke and Josh would receive is worth a first round pick.

Garcia only has a year or 2 left. Why not bring Brett in for a year or 2. There is not QB in thw wing waiting to take over. The Bucs are 1 QB away from greatness. Yes Garcia did well last year. But, lets be honest 9-7 is not wonderful. The Saints and Panthers are both looking good this year and 9-7 again will keep the Bucs from Postseason. With Brett the Bucs go 12-4, win the Diviion, get home field…you can get married and divorced, buy and sell a house…I do not care that Brett retired. Bring him in and lets win some football games!

I have been a packer fan all my life , I have loved Brett Favre since came here But i truley think that the Packers owe him nothing Its time for new blood in there. Given if the Bucs get Favre you got one Hell of a talented player, But you’ll have to take the ego with him. He didnt come back to Green Bay to play he came back to say he is not in the frame of mind and he could not give the Pack 100% so that they would trade him. So from some one that is exsperiencing this saga I hope the Bucs get Favre.

Posted by  Rodney Shipley, sarasota on 08/05  at  09:27 PM

I loved Bret and the Packers (only people ownwd team ), but he has dropped in my mind as an ego that disregards all around him and suported him for years. Should have stayed retired butt head.

Posted by  mixnasty, Tampa, FL on 08/05  at  09:26 PM

Wow! Bucs is bringing the circus to town. I’m kinda torn between both. I like garcia and what he did for us last year, but thats Brett Favre. If Vinnie T can retire and come back why can’t brett. He gives us a good chance to win. If Joey can get healthy that would be a good pair.

Posted by  savat vong, st.pete on 08/05  at  09:07 PM

what a way to show Garcia our appreciation for his hard work last year that got us back into the playoffs. we can’t afford to give up our drafts or key players just for one or two years of Brett.
