Greetings again from the Trop, where there is some early news. The Rays have recalled infielder and utility man Ben Zobrist from Triple A Durham and optioned struggling outfielder Jonny Gomes.
Because starting shortstop Jason Bartlett has an injured right index finger after being hit by a pitch Sunday, Zobrist will get the start in tonight’s second game of a three-game set against Cleveland. Left fielder Carl Crawford, nursing a strained left hamstring, will miss a second consecutive start. Check back in a couple of hours for the complete lineups.
Gomes, who was a platoon right fielder and designated hitter, hit only .182 in 69 games. He said he looks forward to playing every day at Class AAA Durham.

Baldelli hasn’t been activated because they don’t have an opening for him yet. Bartlett isn’t going on the DL and they need an infielder. This is a good, if only temporary, move. Once Bartlett is back, Zobrist will probably be sent back down and Baldelli will be activated, hopefully.

Why hasn’t Baldelli been activated yet? Let him just DH and conserve his energy.

IT WILL NOT SURPRISE ME TO SEE GOMES WARM UP HIS BAT IN TIME FOR SEPT <> ZOBRIST HAS EARNED A LONGER LOOK AND MY [?] IS SHOULD THEY KEEP HIM FOR THE STRETCH RUN & REMOVE AYBAR <> SHOULD WE REPLACE ROCCO WITH GROSS ? <> IT IS A TOUGH CALL BUT WHATEVER, THE TEAM IS ADDING IMPROVEMENT <> ANOTHER THING TO CONSIDER AS MUCH AS I LIKE THAYER IN [AAA] I SEE WERE JUAN SALAS IS LIGHTS OUT AGAIN !!
