And then there were five.
After sifting through more than 100 resumes of potential football coaches, the nine-person committee at Zephyrhills has narrowed their search for a new head coach to five.
The finalist are: Nick Carroll (Zephyrhills alumni and current Sunlake and former Chamberlain assistant), Troy Hochstetler (current Bulldogs defensive coordinator and 2009 interim co-head coach), Anthony Lister (coached at Wesley Chapel and Pasco, current Zephyrhills teacher), Reggie Roberts (Zephyrhills alumni and Orlando Jones school resource officer) and Rashad West (assistant at Winter Park and former Southeastern Missouri quarterback).
Zephyrhills principal Steve Van Gorden said he expects to wrap up interviews next Tuesday, perform thorough reference checks on Wednesday and Thursday and then announce the school’s new football coach that Friday.
“Those boys this last year went through a lot and now, more than ever, we need to make sure we make the best choice,” Van Gorden said.
