Fittingly enough, Zephyrhills’ senior Jamal Roberts will be gone in a flash.
The speedy 5-foot-10, 170-pound athlete will sign with Kent State on Wednesday’s National Signing Day, Bulldogs athletic director Bruce Cimorelli told the Tampa Tribune on Monday morning.
Coach Reggie Roberts said Flashes coach Darrell Hazell met with Jamal last Tuesday at Zephyrhills
“Jamal is looking for a college that has both good academics and athletics that would fit for him,” Reggie Roberts told the Tribune last week, who added that other schools, such as Division I-AA Presbyterian College, based in Clinton, S.C., Middle Tennessee State, Florida Atlantic and Lehigh University, a FCS private college in Bethlehem, Pa., also expressed interest.
Roberts, who was also featured at running back, receiver, defensive back and returner, was a Pasco Tribune selection as first-team athlete and helped lead the turnaround Bulldogs to a 6-4 record with 1,580 total offensive yards, most of that as scrambling quarterback that had 20 touchdowns, including one for 91 yards.
Roberts joins a Kent State team that was 5-7 in 2011, and in the upcoming 2012 season, the Flashes return to the state to play at Miami on a date yet to be determined.
