This item from The New York Post about plans by the New York Giants to charge up to $20,000 for the “right” to buy season tickets at the new stadium under construction in the Meadowlands.
People are losing jobs.
The economy is in the dumper.
But the Giants are building a $1.6 billion stadium and say they need to charge the seat license fee to help pay construction costs. I guess that’s better than a sales tax increase though, and it does only affect those who choose to buy tickets. The Giants are the first New York team to charge this fee (12 other NFL teams, including you-know-who charge them). At least this is one going to pay for the stadium. The fee paid by Bucs fans just pads the team’s bottom line, since Raymond James Stadium is largely paid for by tax money.
The Mets and Yankees explored this idea for their new stadiums and decided against it.
Then again, neither of those teams just won the Super Bowl.
