The Big East and Big 12 conferences will announce their participation in the Yankee Bowl Wednesday in a press conference at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankee Bowl will pit the fourth selection from the Big East against the seventh selection from the Big 12.
The New York Yankees have called a press conference to make a “major announcement regarding a college football bowl game at Yankee Stadium.”
Two weeks ago, I reported that the Big East would send its third or fourth selection to New York against likely the seventh selection from the Big 12. The bowl game would be played at the new Yankee Stadium with a seating capacity of about 47,000.
The game will be played beginning in 2010.
Here is the Big East’s new six-bowl lineup, for the 2010-13 cycle:
BCS (league champion)
Champs in Orlando (second selection or Notre Dame)
Meineke Car Care in Charlotte, N.C. (third selection)
Yankee Bowl (fourth selection)
Papajohns.com in Birmingham, Ala. (fifth-sixth selection)
St. Petersburg in St. Pete (fifth-sixth selection)
Papajohns.com and St. Pete bowls will share the fifth and sixth selections

Hector, I believe Notre Dame can not be selected to replace a Big East team, but could be selected to replace a Big 12 team - if the Big 12 doesn’t have enough bowl eligible teams (which would be doubtful in my opinion).

Can you say easy win for the Big East… The Big 12 #7 team is not anywhere near as good as the Big East #4 team (this year, that would be either Pitt or WVU). The lack of respect continues for the Big East. I hate the Yankees… I hope we never end up in the bowl!

Man, the NAMES of the Bowl Games for the Big East are just RIDICULOUS! When people hear of them, they are like, What? Can they make a rule where it’s called the Bowl sponsored by the Sponsor - like the other conferences? These names are embarrassing! The FedEx Orange Bowl is still the ORANGE BOWL! Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Not the freakin Car Care Bowl. This league needs to grow up
