Two of Pasco County’s top wide receivers are nursing injuries, with at least one definitely out of action for several weeks.
Sunlake WR Zac Henderson, who had an 80-yard touchdown grab against Hudson last week and 97 yards total in the game, is out four-to-six weeks with a broken leg sustained during a boating accident over the weekend. Henderson’s 112 receiving yards currently leads the team.
Seahawks coach Bill Browning described the incident as a “freak accident” that involved Henderson slipping while trying to get out of the boat. But Browning does expect Henderson to return this season.
Meanwhile, at River Ridge, WR Tyler Allberry, who had the second-highest receiving yardage game in the county this season with 156 yards two weeks ago against Gulf, suffered a groin injury in practice this week and is questionable for the Royal Knights’ Class 4A-District 6 opener at Tarpon Springs.
River Ridge coach Tim Stevens said Allberry will be re-evaluated today. He should dress, but it is not clear how much they will be able to use him against the Spongers.
Allberry has six catches for 167 yards and a touchdown in two games at wide receiver. He began the year at quarterback and continues to see snaps at that position each game, but as the fastest player on the team, Stevens is trying to utilize his skills as much as possible, as well as develop his other QB, Josh Maisel.
Allberry’s 156-yard game trails only that of Land O’ Lakes WR Will Irwin’s 161-yard outburst against Ridgewood for most receiving yards in a single game among Pasco County receivers this season.
