University of South Florida junior WR Colby Erskin, who is recovering from a second torn ACL, said he sprinted at full speed for the first time Saturday.
“It felt good, there was no pain,” Erskin said.
Erskin said he hopes to start practicing in two weeks and has tentatively targeted his return for the Sept. 12 Kansas game.
“Whenever I’m healthy, that’s when I’ll be back,” said Erskin, who was the Bulls’ fastest player with a sub 4.3 40 before his injury. “I’m pretty tough mentally. I just wish I could get in Terrell Owens’ oxygen chamber [to speed the recovery].”
3,500 AT RAY JAY: Sunday’s Fan Appreciation Day at Raymond James Stadium drew a record crowd of about 3,500, almost doubling last year’s crowd of 2,000.
It was slightly different from USF’s first fan day back in 1997, said TE coach Larry Scott, who played on that ’97 team.
“Back then it was only the coaches and players on the practice field and a few parents who showed up,” Scott said.
At that moment, two USF fans walked past Scott on the RJS turf carrying draft beers at $7.50 a pop.
“Oh yeah,” Scott noticed, “we didn’t sell beer back then either.”
SEASON TICKETS AT 26,000: USF has sold about 26,000 season tickets, USF executive AD Bill McGillis said. USF sold more than 100 season tickets at Sunday’s Fan Day.
Less than 2,800 lower bowl season tickets remain, McGillis said. Single-game lower bowl tickets, if available, will not be sold until after the Kansas game.
SIGN LANGUAGE: Last year, QB Matt Grothe said the weirdest autograph requests he received were signing an inflatable monkey named Reggie and “a drunk fan asked me to sign his wife’s [chest].”
Grothe’s strangest request Sunday? Signing a fan’s leg.
“My mom told me I had to get pictures with Matt and get as much of my body signed as I could,” said Kortlyn Dougherty, a sophomore at Lake Gibson High, where Grothe went to school.
Dougherty, who said she got autographs on her body at last year’s event, wants the autograph to remain until school starts later this month. “The key is after you get out of the shower you have to retrace it,” she said.

Steve, it was great to see you. It was a pretty impressive turnout and like Larry Scott told me, quite a difference from the earlier Fan Days.

Hey Steve O’Neal, I’ve got a 30 Pack of Keystone Light. Is it time for a revolution?

It was good to see you at fanfest, Brett. I was at the 1st fanfest and man, what a difference today. My daughter and her fiance were going to leave the 26th to drive back to california where he is based with a stop in Vegas along the way. They decided to stay a few days longer and go to home opener instead of Vegas. GO BULLS!

It is WAY past time for a revolution. As a matter of fact if they don’t start selling 30 stones in Tampa we must have a REVOLUTION! Hope you got the ucf tickets. See you at the tailgate(revolution planning) party, Paul.
