Williams, Henriquez honored by Dairy Farmers

Jefferson junior quarterback Quentin Williams, who led Jefferson to the Class 3A state semifinals with , was named Class 3A Player of the Year and Tampa Catholic coach Bob Henriquez, who guided the Crusaders to the 2B state title game, was named 2B Coach of the Year by the Florida Dairy Farmers on Thursday. Williams is now a finalist for Mr. Football while Henriquez is a finalist for Coach of the Year.

The eight finalists for the Mr. Football Award include:

Kelvin Taylor, Belle Glade Glades Day, freshman, RB, 1B Player-of-the-Year: 
Taylor had 2,600 yards rushing on 262 attempts and 50 touchdowns. He also caught seven passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns, leading his team to a 12-2 record and the Class 1B state title.

Ronald Jones, Fort Meade, junior, QB, 1A Player-of-the-Year: 
Jones completed 100-of-165 passes for 1,638 yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing for 400 yards on 50 attempts and seven touchdowns, leading his team to a 12-1 record and the Class 1A state Final Four.

Garrett Hammett, Callahan West Nassau, senior, RB/DB, 2B Player-of-the-Year:
Hammett rushed for 2,053 yards on 215 attempts and 23 touchdowns while catching 10 passes for 494 yards and three touchdowns while leading his team to an 8-3 record and spot in the Class 2B regional semifinals. On defense, he also added 82 tackles (49 solo), three sacks and four interceptions.

Matt Younger, Cocoa, senior, QB, 2A Player-of-the-Year:
Younger completed 80-of-120 passes for 1,601 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 97 yards on 31 attempts and 13 touchdowns, leading his team to a 15-0 record and the Class 2A state title. He also punted 27 times for 1,302 yards for a 41.4 average.

Quentin Williams, Tampa Jefferson, junior, QB, 3A Player-of-the-Year: 
Williams completed 196-of-304 passes for 3,495 yards and 34 touchdowns while rushing for 550 yards on 125 attempts and eight touchdowns, leading his team to a 12-2 record and to the Class 3A state Final Four.

Matt Elam, Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer, senior, RB/LB, 4A Player-of-the-Year: 
Elam had 1,895 yards rushing on 193 attempts and 29 touchdowns, while on defense he had 92 tackles, eight tackles for loss, six sacks and two interceptions, leading his team to a 14-1 record and the Class 4A state title.

Lemarcus Joyner, Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, senior, WR, 5A Player-of-the-Year:
Joyner had 418 yards rushing on 50 attempts and four touchdowns, caught 19 passes for 284 yards and four touchdowns and returned 10 kickoffs for 396 yards while leading his team to a 13-1 record and a spot in the Class 5A Final Four. On defense, he added 26 tackles (12 solo), including two tackles for loss and three forced fumbles.

Jeffrey Godfrey, Miami Central, senior, QB, 6A Player-of-the-Year:
Godfrey had 2,792 passing yards and 42 touchdowns while rushing for 564 yards and nine touchdowns, leading his team to a record of 12-2 and a spot in the Class 6A Final Four.


The eight finalists for Coach-of-the-Year include:

Ronnie Pruitt, 3rd year, Hawthorne, Class 1B Coach-of-the-Year:
Coach Pruitt’s team won the district championship on its way to a 12-1 record and a spot in the Class 1B state Final Four. He has a career record of 20-23.

Verlon Dorminey, 19th year, Jacksonville Trinity Christian, 1A Coach-of-the-Year:
Coach Dorminey’s team won the district championship on its way to a 13-1 record and a spot in the Class 1A state championship game. His teams have made seven Final Four appearances, had one state runnerup finish and captured two state titles (2002, 2003). Coach Dorminey has a career record of 177-50.

Bob Henriquez, 14th year, Tampa Catholic, 2B Coach-of-the-Year:
Coach Henriquez’s team won the district championship on its way to an 11-2 record and a spot in the Class 2B state championship game. His teams have made six Final Four appearances and had two state runnerup finishes. He has a career record of 107-57.

John Wilkinson, 8th year, Cocoa, 2A Coach-of-the-Year:
Coach Wilkinson’s team won the district championship, finished with a 15-0 record and won the Class 2A state title. In his five years at Cocoa his teams have made three Final Four appearances and won back-to-back state titles (2008, 2009). At Cocoa, coach Wilkinson has a 56-10 record and an overall career record of 71-25.

Richard Stuart, 27th year, Miami Belen Jesuit, 3A Coach-of-the-Year:
Coach Stuart’s team won the district championship on its way to an 11-4 record and a spot in the Class 3A state championship game. His teams have made one Final Four appearance and had one state runnerup finish. Coach Stuart has an overall record of 172-116.

John Hicks, 28th year, Niceville, 4A Coach-of-the-Year: 
Coach Hicks’ team won the district championship on its way to a 13-1 record and a spot in the Class 4A state championship game. In his nine years at Niceville his teams have won six district titles, made two Final Four appearances and had one state runnerup finish (2009). At Niceville, coach Hicks has a record of 80-25 and an overall career record of 84-31.

George Smith, 33rd year, Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, 5A Coach-of-the-Year:
Coach Smith’s team won the district championship on its way to a 13-1 record and a spot in the Class 5A Final Four. His teams have made 12 Final Four appearances, had seven state runnerup finishes and won five state titles (1992, 1997, 1999, 2007, 2008). He has a career record of 346-66. 

Kevin Pettis, 10th year, Deland, 6A Coach-of-the-Year:
In his second year at Deland, coach Pettis’ team was the district runnerup on its way to a 12-2 record and a spot in the Class 6A championship game. At Deland, he has a record of 17-7 and an overall career record of 79-37.
